Printing Association of Florida's Print Management Conference a Success

Orlando, FL – August 5, 2004 – Members of the Printing Association of Florida gathered for an exciting weekend of Awards, Games, and Educational sessions at the Royal Pacific resort at Universal Orlando, a Loews Hotel, this weekend. Printing is Florida’s largest manufacturing industry and represents $157 billion in revenues for the nation.
Printers across the region submitted their best work for a chance at winning Best of Show and many other distinguished awards at the 17th annual Florida Print Awards, the annual, elite gala held Saturday evening. Winners included printers from Tampa, Orlando, Miami, and many other cities in Florida.
PAF Golf Classic
Over 150 people were in attendance for the power-packed weekend, which kicked-off with a four man scramble golf tournament at MetroWest Golf Classic, sponsored by graphic arts supply distributor xpedx.
Casino Night
Attendees tried their hand at Jacksonville-based sponsor Mac Papers’ popular Casino Night, where many walked away with prizes such as weekend getaways, Apple iPODs, and Callaway golf sets.
Florida Print Industry Summit
It was standing room only at the 2004 Florida Print Industry Summit, where Ronnie H. Davis, Ph.D., Chief Economist for Printing Industries of America (PIA), and Jeffrey Hayzlett, Hayzlett and Associates, gave comprehensive presentations covering the ways in which members can capitalize on new opportunities in the industry.
Davis examined statistical trends in the printing industry, and outlined where growth opportunities exist. He noted the changes in the numbers of printing plants, plant sizes, employment and sales both now and forecasted for the remainder of 2004 and 2005.
Hayzlett provided insight into the Print Council, a new business development alliance represented by leaders in the graphic arts industry. The goal of the Print Council is to influence and promote the greater use of print media. Founding members of the alliance include, but are not limited to: Agfa, Heidelberg, Presstek, Pitney Bowes, Kodak, International Paper and many others. Hayzlett talked about the plans for the Council in the coming months and the importance of Print.
17th Annual Florida Print Awards Banquet
The most anticipated event of the weekend was the 17th Annual Florida Print Awards, where PAF members entered pieces into the competition and companies were given various awards, including the Trophy Awards and Best of Show designations for each of four divisions, categorized by company size.
