July 8, 2004 -- Dutch newspaper publisher Winkelaar Krantendruk has recently become the first company in Europe to invest in ECRM’s fully automated newspaper CTP solution, the NEWSmatic.
Founded in 1902 in Winterswijk close to the German border in the east of The Netherlands; the firm can boast over 100 years history in the newspaper printing industry. With this kind of experience and understanding of the market, it comes as no surprise that the firm turned to the ECRM NEWSmatic when it became clear that automatic CTP was the way forward; and more importantly, that it was now affordable.
F.W. de Groot, Director at Winkelaar Krantendruk, comments, “A number of market factors combined, resulting in a need for us to investigate a move into CTP. We had to become more efficient. The NEWSmatic has allowed us to cut costs and reduce our pre-press production times.”
“Additionally, we’ve seen increasing demands for full colour printing in the newspaper market. Printing in colour means that print quality must be perfect. In the past there was always a compromise on price, high quality automated output just wasn’t affordable. It was only when we saw the NEWSmatic at IFRA in 2003 that we realised that we didn’t have to compromise anymore. We had found the solution for our CTP needs.”
Winkelaar Krantendruk publishes a range of weekly and regional newspaper titles in both The Netherlands and the Rheinland-Westfalen area of Germany. To maintain the firms competitive edge and the reputation of its publications, the firm has found it crucial to invest in the latest technology.
F.W. de Groot continues, “Increasingly we’ve been moving towards a digital workflow, as this helps to save a great deal of pre-press time. The NEWSmatic is an integral part of this process, the product’s ability to integrate into a digital workflow, and its automation have resulted in amazing time savings.”
The NEWSmatic isn’t Winkelaar Krantendruk’s first experience of ECRM technology; “We’ve been working with ECRM products for several years now. We currently operate a VR30, a VR36, a VR45 and a Marlin63, so we knew that the NEWSmatic would come with the usual guarantee of quality at the right price. We haven’t been disappointed,” concludes de Groot.
