T/R Systems Announces New Version of MicroPress For Minolta's DiALTA

Press release from the issuing company

ATLANTA--June 24, 2003-- T/R SYSTEMS, INC., a leader in developing innovative solutions for the management and production of digital documents, and Minolta Corporation announced today the immediate availability of the latest version of T/R Systems' MicroPress software for use with Minolta's high-volume DiALTA(TM) black & white and color digital printers/copiers. The MicroPress X Series supports the Minolta DiALTA Di850 black & white digital printer/copier. The Di850 is a multifunction system that delivers output of up to 85 pages per minute with a 600 x 600 dpi print resolution at full rated speed. The Di850 is designed for high-volume output in the most rigorous print production environments, with a duty cycle of 750,000 pages per month. It has superior image quality and powerful finishing options such as stapling, hole-punching, half-folding and saddle-stitching, and post-process finishing and cover insertion. In addition, T/R Systems and Minolta announced development for future connectivity to the newly introduced DiALTA color CF3102P, a 31 page per minute color printer/copier. The MicroPress/CF3102P combination is expected to be available later this year. T/R Systems provides connectivity to a number of other Minolta devices, supporting a full range of print options for the print-on-demand environment. "We are very enthusiastic about these latest developments with Minolta Corporation," said Mike Kohlsdorf, President and CEO of T/R Systems. "Expanding the number and type of devices that are MicroPress-supported will give Minolta customers more output options and position the MicroPress as a more robust document production solution." T/R Systems' innovative MicroPress X Series is at the heart of Minolta's print-on-demand (POD) solution. The MicroPress is a document production server for POD customers that bridges the gap between low-volume workgroup printing and high-volume centralized printing. By combining powerful document "make-ready" capabilities and advanced job management with advanced workflow tools and unique print device connectivity options, the MicroPress X Series provides customers with a scalable production printing system. The MicroPress X Series includes the MicroPress SX, DX and MX models, each of which addresses a different segment of the POD market from low- to high-volume. MicroPress Version 6.2 for Minolta is run on a new platform, which leverages the latest in processing power. The new platform, available for each model of the X Series, is designed to support even the most demanding applications, including color and variable data. Version 6.2 features improvements to TRueEdit, the PrintStation Manager and to the MicroPress RIP. Enhancements to TRueEdit, an image editing application designed to let users edit MicroPress jobs, include Tab Editor features that allow multiple tabs to be inserted, edited and labeled from one dialog box, which significantly reduces the number of steps required to add tabs to a document. TRueEdit's tab feature supports multi-line tabs, the placement of images on tabs and is capable of re-ordering tabs in significantly faster time. Other new features include the ability to export jobs as TIFF, PostScript or PDF for use in third-party applications, such as PhotoShop, and for multiple user access to editing tools with Remote TRueEdit. Version 6.2 also provides significant upgrades to the PrintStation Manager, such as the automatic splitting of black & white and color pages within a job, job scheduling, subset stapling, page and subset level tray calls and overall speed optimization. Version 6.2 further advances the MicroPress RIP, offering faster RIP speed and improvements to ICC profiles, calibration curves and process spot color matching, which are all part of the TRueColor color management suite. "We are excited to once again collaborate with T/R Systems to offer best-of-class POD options for our customers," said Bud Murphy, Senior Vice President at Minolta Corporation. "The result is that our customers will continue to benefit from the wide range of powerful features and functionality offered by the MicroPress." The MicroPress SX, DX, and MX document production servers are now available through select Minolta Corporation dealers and direct sales locations.
