Digital Workflow Group Born of GATF/PIA Specialty Group
Press release from the issuing company
Pittsburgh, Pa., February 6, 2003 — To better reflect its purpose, The Electronic Prepress Section (EPS) has changed its name to "EPS—the Digital Workflow Group, a special section of GATF/PIA." Established in 1994 by the Printing Industries of America (PIA), the group’s mission is to assist production management in their decision making process and daily operation and to assist top management in conducting their business more profitably. Managed by the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (GATF) since 1999, the group’s membership includes printers with prepress operations, prepress companies, service bureaus, and educators.
Members of this special section receive a free subscription to PIA’s Management Portfolio and a bi-monthly newsletter containing information on prepress technology "hot spots," case studies on prepress workflow/production, and tips on how to select and train prepress employees.
Additionally members receive three EPS Special Reports each year. The most recent study released, The PDF Era: PDF Usage in the Real World, documents the experiences of printers already using Adobe’s Portable Document Format in their workflow so readers can learn of the real-world benefits and problems. Chargeable vs. Nonchargeable Downtime in Electronic Prepress, a survey conducted annually, provides statistics to help prepress managers benchmark their current policies and pricing practices to other printers and prepress organizations.
