LOS ANGELES--Feb. 7, 2003--Seybold Seminars and Publications today announced plans to hold its first-ever event in Amsterdam this summer. Seybold PDF Summit Amsterdam 2003 will take place June 12-13 at the RAI Centre in Amsterdam, Holland. The Seybold PDF Summit will serve as the maiden event specifically designed for pan European influencers in print, publishing, enterprise and government organizations. The event will also showcase the results of Seybold Publication's European PDF Survey.
"Our goal in launching a European event is, for the first time, to provide the European community with an opportunity to learn from techniques that are not prevalent in their own country," said James Smith, vice president and general manager of Seybold Seminars and Publications. "Our internal research revealed that over half of PDF tool developers are based in Europe. This combined with Seybold Seminar's longtime PDF heritage, makes the PDF Summit a natural extension of the Seybold brand."
The two-day summit will target an audience of IT professionals, developers, government decision makers and business managers and will include representation from leading vendors, trade associations, user groups and trade journalists. Scheduled around the anticipated shipping dates of the next version of Acrobat, the conference program will be led by experts from various European countries and will address a range of issues on PDF development, workflow and tools. Conference program highlights include:
* Acrobat -- Ten Years-Old and Growing. This all-day program provides a top-down approach to examining Adobe Acrobat. European companies will describe how they are using PDF and present what's new in Acrobat and why you should care.
* PDF for Print. This program will discuss top support issues in PDF for print including prepress workflows, support issues, creating reliable color output, and will include a special debate on PDF File Formats.
* PDF for Enterprises and Governments. Targeted to large enterprises and government organizations, this track will discuss building successful digital workflow in large organizations, when to chose PDF and/or XML, manual PDF versus server-based generations and a special session on government accessibility strategies and coping with regulatory mandates.
Seybold PDF Summit attendees will also have the opportunity to witness the unveiling of the first ever European PDF Survey. Seybold Publication's European PDF Survey results will reveal significant industry figures, including the use of PDF in conjunction with native file formats, the use of specific tools to create or fix PDFs, and the expected adoption of the PDF/X and JDF formats.
"Our survey results will enable vendors, educators, users and industry observers to gain required data about the use of various PDF file formats and tools," said Hans Hartman, conference chair of the Seybold PDF Summit. "Our commitment and investment in this PDF research demonstrates our advocacy for open, usable standards that deliver the highest-quality results for the industry."
In addition, Seybold Seminars will host two technology "days" on the 11th of June -- The Gilbane Content Management Day, and The CIP4 JDF Day -- which will be available to attendees of the Seybold PDF Summit at no additional cost. Both Content Management and JDF are hot technologies that are of great interest to those involved in creating and managing PDF workflows and are a clear example of the value add that Seybold can bring to its events.
