Press release from the issuing company
CHICAGO, Dec. 5 -- R.R. Donnelley today received the 2002 Better Business Bureau Torch Award For Marketplace Ethics from the Bureau's Chicago and Northern Illinois chapter. R.R. Donnelley was recognized for demonstrating ethical practices toward customers, suppliers, coworkers and the community.
An independent panel of judges from business and academia selected R.R. Donnelley, a leading printer, communications services and logistics company, as one of the winners in the large company (more than 7,500 employees) category.
"It is an honor to be awarded the Torch Award For Marketplace Ethics by the Better Business Bureau of Chicago and Northern Illinois," said William L. Davis, chairman, president and chief executive officer for R.R. Donnelley. "Every facet of R.R. Donnelley is focused on commitment to excellence, which is reinforced through our vision and values, customer service and business initiatives. Our employees are proud of our reputation, and together we are working as one team, with one voice, to preserve it."
"The selection of R.R. Donnelley by our independent panel of judges to win the Better Business Bureau Torch Award For Marketplace Ethics reflects the effort of this corporation to ingrain ethics into their operations and the understanding that ethical business is good business," remarked James E. Baumhart, president and chief executive officers of the Better Business Bureau of Chicago and Northern Illinois, Inc.
In addition to conducting business honestly, ethically and in strict compliance of various state and federal statutes, R.R. Donnelley employees are steadfastly loyal to the company's strategies and values.
R.R. Donnelley believes that vital elements of maintaining an ethical company include interacting with suppliers and customers in a fair and honest manner, complying with environmental and other regulatory standards, providing a safe and enjoyable place for employees to work, maintaining diversity throughout the workplace, and honoring an "open door" policy for employees. These are just a few reasons why R.R. Donnelley has been included in Fortune magazine's "America's Most Admired Companies" for two consecutive years and named one of the "50 Best Companies for Latinas to Work in the U.S." LATINA Style Magazine in 2001 and 2002.
R.R. Donnelley, as well as the other local Better Business Bureau award recipients, will receive a nomination to the International competition for the Bureau's Torch Award For Marketplace Ethics, to be presented in San Diego on October 1, 2003.
