Citation Graphics Puts Miss America Competition in Print, Engages Agfa

Press release from the issuing company

Mortsel, Belgium – 25 November 2002 – The glamour and excitement of The Miss America Competition has come to Citation Graphics of Moorestown, New Jersey in the U.S. Citation Graphics is the sole publisher, printer and distributor of the Miss America Competition Magazine for the next five years. Citation created the publication with the Agfa Galileo VS fully automated platesetter and proofed it on the AgfaJet Sherpa 2. Agfa Apogee PrintDrive Output Manager was used in order to meet the high quality and rigid standards for a publication of this prestige. "We are very excited to bring the Miss America Competition Magazine to the viewers and loyal fans of this annual event honouring dedicated and talented young women," said John McElwee, publisher, Citation Graphics. "We use Agfa solutions because we like Agfa’s modular design approach. We chose Agfa’s Apogee PrintDrive because it was the only resource management solution that could singly manage and connect our proofers and platesetters. Otherwise, we would have needed additional software and a workstation to oversee each machine. We saved so much time using PrintDrive in tandem with our Sherpa 2 and Galileo VS." The beautiful collector’s edition magazine gives Miss America enthusiasts the chance to learn more about the 82-year history of the Miss America Organization. Additionally, the magazine offers a sneak peek into the personal lives of all 51 talented contestants who competed for the title of Miss America 2003 last month in Atlantic City, New Jersey. "We are very excited about the release of the 2002 Miss America Competition Magazine," said George Bauer, President and CEO of the Miss America Organization. "We are the world's largest provider of scholarship assistance for promising young women. The competition magazine helps our devoted national audience learn about the individual contestants from this year, as well as previous Miss America competitions from our rich 82-year history." The AgfaJet Sherpa 2 is a high-productivity digital proofing system that prints on either sides of the sheet for foolproof imposition testing. Driven by the Apogee PrintDrive, the Sherpa 2 system gives total control of the process and maximizes performances. Citation Graphics also uses Agfa Lithostar LAP-V plates, a high-sensitivity plate designed for ideal imaging with the shorter wavelength (410nm) of the violet laser. "We are proud that Agfa’s field-proven solutions are helping Citation Graphics meet the high standards demanded by a publication of this calibre," said Susan Wittner, U.S. marketing director, Agfa Graphic Systems "Our open solutions give printers the ability to do outstanding work on any project. The Galileo VS with Plate Manager and Plate Processor is a fully automatic, load-and-forget system that uses the latest in violet laser technology to create perfect and precise printing plates." The Miss America Competition Magazine and other pageant merchandise are available at the organization’s e-store (www.shopmissamerica.com). It costs $14.95, and multiple copies are available at a reduced rate.
