Cataloger Awards 3-Year Multi-million Dollar Contract to Quad/Graphics

Press release from the issuing company

February 19, 2002 - Recently, Quad/Graphics welcomed new client Mid America Direct with a celebratory bindery startup of the cataloger's Mid America Designs catalog. President and Founder Mike Yager and his wife and business partner Laurie headlined the ceremony in Quad’s Sussex, Wisconsin, plant. The 28-year-old cataloger recently inked a three-year, multi-million dollar contract with Quad/Graphics for the production of its three catalog titles: Mid America Designs, a catalog for Corvette enthusiasts; Tweeks, for Porsche aficionados; and The Real Source, for Volkswagen Beetle buffs. The catalogs sell everything from clothing and jewelry to car mats and replacement parts. "Thirty years ago neither of us were in business," said Harry V. Quadracci, Quad/Graphics president and founder, at a binder-side gathering attended by hundreds of employees. "Thirty years ago we were dreaming about starting our own company and now some 30 years later, here we are shutting things down to celebrate a new relationship." Added Mr. Yager: "We're impressed with the cleanliness, the high-tech capabilities, the family attitude and the caring of everybody at Quad/Graphics. My hat is off to you." Advanced technology in prepress and planning, as well as flexibility in scheduling, coupled with Quad’s ability to handle Mid America Direct's new marketing campaign, are a few of the factors that made Quad so attractive according to the company. "Quad raised good questions and helped us come up with some solutions," said Cheryl Habing, production manager for Mid America Direct. "We went from a 280-page rotogravure catalog to four different offset catalogs, all with varying page counts, body forms and versions." Mid America Direct's newly mail-streamed catalogs will now specifically target not only potential buyers — separate from past buyers and catalog requestors — but also appeal to customers with the production of specialty catalogs targeting the owners of individual makes or models. "I thank you for a job well done and we look forward to coming back here for many years," Mr. Yager said.
