(Lehigh Valley, PA) Tower Products, Inc., a leading manufacturer of environmentally sensitive pressroom chemistry, has released a new neutral fountain solution utilizing a unique technology pioneered by the company. The product, Premier Neutral ND, is currently in use at several high-end newspaper facilities on the East Coast. Premier Neutral ND was developed with the goal of decreasing waste during the press start-up while still printing a sharp dot and reducing toning. Studies conducted at a major newspaper this summer showed that not only were targeted graybar values and ink densities being achieved, but the papers off the press from a cold start could be sold in as few as 250 copies. On hot starts, 150-200 copy saleable papers were produced using the fountain solution, significantly reducing pressroom waste. The product was initially developed to work in conjunction with high strength inks, but tests run with standard and soy inks also have proved to produce similar results. According to Tower President Rick Principato, "The use of an advanced wetting agent package, in conjunction with additional plate cleaning additives within the solution, make the product technology unique. Another added benefit is that we can get the same clean and sharp printing using a neutral pH, rather than a mild acid; thereby decreasing the possibility of corrosion."
