XChange Int'l Announce Xcatalog and ProScale for QuarkXPress 8
Press release from the issuing company
London, UK (September 28, 2008) - XChange International, the source for extended technology worldwide, are pleased to announce the release of ProScale and Xcatalog XTensions for QuarkXPress 8. Xcatalog is a free update for Xcatalog 6/7 users. Users can upgrade to ProScale for QuarkXPress 8 for 51.00/$94.00 and will receive versions compatible with QuarkXPress 7 and QuarkXPress 8.
ProScale offers users the ability to resize items, groups or entire documents with a single click. Users can intelligently scale page elements disproportionately without distorting text and graphics and the XTension includes advanced text and column fitting tools along with a convenient "fit-to" function. A visual drag scaling tool works with the Quark measurements palette as well. Users have control over every aspect of what gets scaled including guides, gutters, shadows, etc. ProScale also scales native elements such as tables, web items and anchored groups.
Other features include:
* Scale items, groups, page ranges or entire documents
* Scale disproportionally without distorting pictures and text or choose to scale flexographically
* Special function palette with scaling presets
* Step-and-repeat scaling
* Scaling presets for common sizes allows users to quickly move documents from letter size to A4 and vice versa
* Advanced, easy-to-use text-fitting
* Single-click column fitting
Xcatalog for QuarkXPress is a powerful bi-directional linking tool for creating transparent links between QuarkXPress documents and external data. With these links in place, users never have to enter or update their data in two places (documents and database), but can simply update one or the other from the most current version.
Xcatalog provides an "open system", database-neutral linking scheme between databases and QuarkXPress documents, automating the publication of documents ranging from single-page advertising flyers to 1,000+ page industrial products catalogues, and involving from a few dozen to 100,000+ data records.
Xcatalog has an interactive linking tool that supports linking both boxes - text and graphics - and arbitrary text selections within boxes. Each linked document element is associated with a given field of the record selected by a given key, with several options for text and graphics import (e.g., the element is a price or XPress Tagged text, the picture should be imported with a particular sizing option applied, etc). Once a document is linked, its elements can be updated using the "Update from File..." menu option, or automatically (usually in batches) with script options.
Xcatalog provides an intuitive linking palette to establish links between any database element and any document text element, from a single character to a phrase to a paragraph to a whole story or any picture element. Links are transparent to the printing process (they don't affect page layout), but visible on the screen (if the user chooses).
With pre-linked modules in libraries, users can drag a module, fill in a key value in one link, and watch Xcatalog fill in the whole module interactively. With just one menu selection, users can make sure all linked document elements match their corresponding database elements without every worrying again about whether they've gotten all the price changes before the big catalogue release, or whether, in the last-minute rush to get the catalogue out the door, they've forgotten to update a few prices in the database that were updated in the document.
Any number of price styles can be defined per publishing project and users can also update pictures, automatically resizing them to fit their destination box in various ways, or to be left sized as-is. Users can direct Xcatalog to their picture folders, using aliases/shortcuts in their project control folder and can enable "fuzzy lookup," which even finds picture files with filename prefixes or file types/suffixes. All of Xcatalog's updating operations are scriptable as well, with AppleScript under Mac OS for powerful workflow automation.
