Bowne Secures Ownership of Machine Translation Technology
Press release from the issuing company
PARSIPPANY, N.J.--Nov. 29, 2001--Bowne Global Solutions has announced that it secured, through auction, the complete rights to machine translation technology that it had previously co-owned. As the result of its August 2001 acquisition of Mendez S.A. from Lernout & Hauspie Speech Products N.V. (L&H), Bowne had secured co-ownership rights for L&H's machine translation assets.
The ownership includes intellectual property rights for all products built on the Barcelona machine translation engine -- encompassing enterprise, online and end-user solutions, as well as lexicons and related tools, in 22 language directions. In addition to existing distribution agreements, usage and future development rights are all part of this new ownership.
"Since the acquisition of Mendez S.A., we have conducted thorough research and development audits on the application of this technology,'' said Carl Glaeser, CEO of Bowne Global Solutions. "We are confident that machine translation, combined with other proprietary solutions, has the potential to deliver benefits beyond anything thus far achieved. Our pioneering vision will take this technology in a direction that will finally extract the true value that has long existed.''
