Document Sciences Transforms Document Designers Into Web Designers

Press release from the issuing company

CARLSBAD, Calif.--Oct. 31, 2001--Document Sciences Corporation, the leader in Content Automation software for print, Web and e-mail, will feature a sneak preview of its revolutionary Visual CompuSet Professional (VC Pro) Web Designer software at Xplor, booth 1163, October 29 through November 1 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. VC Pro Web Designer, an add-on to its popular VC Pro software used by many financial services organizations and insurance companies, allows those who design high-value communications, such as account statements and other customer documents, to easily transform their existing print applications into fully Web-enabled, interactive content. "This software truly empowers the document designer,'' explained Dan Fregeau, Executive Vice-President of Document Sciences. "Now one tool can be used to design an application that generates printed pages, interactive Web pages, and e-mail attachments - all highly-personalized, with media-specific formatting and features, if desired. Web Designer eliminates the need for costly custom Web coding and allows organizations to reach their customers with high value communications through every touch point. It gives those who design documents an important role in web portal development.'' Using Web Designer, existing print applications can become Web-enabled literally with a flick of a switch. It also extends the input capabilities of a traditional print application from flat files and ODBC relational databases to include HTML form data. A key Web Designer feature is that fidelity between print and electronic presentations can be maintained through a single application. In other words, Web Designer supports transactional Web documents and batch generation for printed output simultaneously. By deploying a Web Designer application on a Web server customizedcontent can be created in an on-demand fashion to support both Intranet and Internet requirements. Application output in Web Designer is a CGI program that can be deployed on a Windows IIS Web server, and referenced from existing HTML pages in a Web portal. The CGI program can process HTML form data and interface with customer databases, processing data and returning streaming HTML or a PDF file with fully dynamic and personalized content. VC Pro Web Designer is scheduled for release early next month.
