300 lpi Screen with a Web Press, A New Era in Commercial Printing
Press release from the issuing company
You cannot build tomorrow's world with yesterday's technology. So if you want to be armed for the markets of tomorrow, you need to take the future by the throat and utilise state-of-the-art technology now, equipment which was unheard of all but a short time ago. Who said that 300 lpi screen with a web press is not possible? A print sample from the KBA Compacta 215 proves otherwise.
The comparison between 150 and 300 lpi screen vividly illustrates the print quality possible with state-of-the-art commercial web offset press technology
Know-how in Print
Cutting-edge commercial work is the trademark of Limburger Offsetdruck GmbH (LiO), and not just in Germany. The new printing house is a Mecca for trail-blazing web offset operations with future-driving technology permeating all production stages from pre-press to finishing. Such equipment furnishes printers with the wherewithal to address clients? most demanding requests and it is therefore not surprising that LiO is a partner of choice for catalogues, prospectuses, magazines, covers for magazines and brochures, newspaper inserts with company name imprints, bound-in inserts, and digital originals. Over 70% of LiO's jobs are now received in digital form and output via CTP technology directly onto printing plates. Roughly half of the production involves in-line finishing.
Advanced Press Technology
Not one but two 16pp Compacta 215 presses in double-decker configuration adorn the printing plant at Limburger Offsetdruck. With five and six printing units in either combined or individual production, plus automatic plate changing and the imprinter function, this is a very flexible configuration to tackle even unusual product requests. And with state-of-the-art technology such as individual drives, decentralised intelligent control, Minigap on plate- and blanket-cylinders for paper savings, and the gripper folder which is automatically adjusted to the next production in a mere two minutes, the Compacta 215 is the most advanced 16-page press on the market. The modular design enables press lines to be customised to suit precise requirements.
Commercial Web Offset with 300 lpi Screen
LiO has been evaluating the use of 300 lpi screen films for some time now. But it was finally the Compacta 215 which furnished the suitable technology to output the quality displayed in the 16-page print sample with 150 and 300 lpi screen, a joint production by Limburger Offsetdruck GmbH and Koenig and Bauer AG. The technical highlights of the Compacta 215 which enable LiO to enter a new era of web-offset quality with 300 lpi screen are:
metal printing blankets whose harder properties promote sharper dot reproduction,
Minigap technology on plate and blanket cylinders which reduces vibration in the printing units,
individual drive technology to allow individual components to be disengaged if not required and which prevents vibration spreading along the press (particularly from the folder to the print units) and
better, more precise web tension control achieved via individual drive technology.
