ALAMEDA, Calif.--Oct. 8, 2001-- Wind River Systems, Inc., a leading provider of software and services for connected smart devices, today awarded Ricoh its "Cool Customer Design'' award for two products in its new category of devices called Image Capture Devices. To develop these innovative digital consumer products, Ricoh utilized a variety of Wind River's market leading products such as the VxWorks embedded real-time operating system (RTOS), Tornado development tools, and the VxWorks Network Stack. Ricoh's new image capture devices, the RDC-7 and the RDC-i700, are much like digital cameras. Both products feature greater than 3.34 million pixel resolution for crisp clear pictures, flip-up LCD screen to easily review pictures, and an optical and digital zoom lens. They also include USB and CompactFlash connectivity. The RDC-i700 has full PC-Card expansion capability. Additionally, using the VxWorks Network Stack, the RDC-i700 features innovative embedded functionality, which allows users to surf the Web, upload images to the Internet, and e-mail pictures to friends and relatives directly from the camera. The embedded VxWorks Network Stack in the RDC-i700 provides for Ethernet network connectivity, or serial line connectivity over a cellular wireless or standard wired phone. These innovative features, among others, led Time Magazine to declare the device "Consumer Technology Invention Of The Year'' in 2000.
