Strategic Sourcing Better Reflects the Way Valassis Business is Done
Press release from the issuing company
LIVONIA, Mich., Nov. 12 -- Valassis recognizes changes in the way purchases are made and how this function has evolved to include strategy, forecasts, and analysis. As a result, Valassis has made strategic changes to better reflect how business is being done.
The company has consolidated their Corporate and Paper Purchasing Departments and renamed the department to more aptly represent what they do. They are now known as the Strategic Sourcing Department, which better describes the bigger picture role they have assumed. These departments have evolved from a group who bought goods and services, as needed, into a team that researches new or alternative products, which lowers costs and increases productivity. The Strategic Sourcing Team also researches industry trends and provides forecasts to allow Valassis to more accurately project costs. This team is also looking for ways to shorten the supply chain and utilize the Internet and other electronic tools to further reduce costs. The increased presence of sourcing electronically represents another change in the way business is being conducted, and Valassis is committed to this way of sourcing.
The Strategic Sourcing team has the ability to utilize the total purchasing volume that Valassis has to work with suppliers, improve order efficiency, and reduce costs. Their role is integral to the company's Growth Plan strategies. The team is responsible for evaluating goods and services purchased at all Valassis locations, including its Corporate Headquarters in Livonia, Michigan, four printing and production facilities, seven sales offices, and fulfillment group in Mexico. William H. Blackmer will continue to lead this team as Director of Strategic Sourcing.
"Making a seamless connection in the supply chain results in cost reductions and more efficient inventory management,'' Blackmer said. "In my 18 years with Valassis, I have seen us continually improve upon our purchasing capabilities. As part of our strategic Growth Plan, we strive to maintain our low-cost product status and we are committed to stay as efficient as possible while maintaining leadership positions in all of our product lines. Our Strategic Sourcing Team is key to achieving this goal.'' Blackmer lives in Canton, Michigan with his wife, Julie, and two daughters.
