According to TrendWatch, 39% of all packaging designers say that their corrugated carton projects have increased either "a little" or "a lot," making it the number one growth area in the packaging market.
Why should you care?
With all the high-tech packaging technologies being developed, it's still the lowly corrugated cardboard box that is a top opportunity for packagers. The popularity of online ordering/mail order plus warehouse clubs, etc., has led shipping and bulk packaging to take on a greater promotional role than it has in the past. Although we may take it for granted, many computer companies, for example, ship and display in the same colorfully printed "double duty" corrugated boxes. In the past decade, print quality on corrugated has improved dramatically, pushing corrugated designs into the realm of marketing, not just shipping. Thinking about the outside of the box is now an everyday part of a product launch.
