TOPPAN Digital to Participate in AIPIA World Congress in Amsterdam

Press release from the issuing company

Showcasing smart packaging solutions that facilitate diverse customer services through digital IDs and an ID authentication platform

Tokyo –  TOPPAN Digital Inc. (TOPPAN Digital), a TOPPAN Group company and wholly owned subsidiary of TOPPAN Holdings Inc., will participate in the AIPIA World Congress, a leading international event for the smart packaging sector, which will be held on November 18 and 19 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

The AIPIA World Congress is an annual event organized by the Active and Intelligent Packaging Industry Association (AIPIA) and Alexander Watson Associates (AWA) as an international forum for comprehensive discussion and exchange on the latest technologies and industry trends in the smart packaging sector. The event features conference-style presentations and exhibits from the industry’s leading companies and organizations.

TOPPAN Digital has previously taken part in the AIPIA World Congress in 2019, 2020, and 2023 (as Toppan Printing prior to 2023), showcasing its high-security NFC tags and ID authentication platform and proposing smart packaging solutions to the global market. This year, TOPPAN Digital will again present samples of packages and containers with integrated NFC tags, and two TOPPAN Digital representatives will take the stage as speakers. Their presentation will introduce how digital IDs and an IoT platform can be combined with NFC tags integrated into packaging to create phygital experiences and enable brands to generate touchpoints with their customers for providing optimized services such as period after opening management and reordering.

Main solutions on show

Solutions for luxury cosmetics containers
In addition to solutions for verifying authenticity, detecting gray market diversion, and providing product information to consumers, at this year’s AIPIA World Congress, TOPPAN Digital will also introduce solutions matched to use cases specific to cosmetics products.

By simply reading an NFC tag with a smartphone after a product has been opened, consumers can confirm both the date on which the product was opened and its use-by date.

Sending notifications directly to consumers when products are approaching their use-by dates, allows brands to create touchpoints with consumers and lead them to online purchasing interfaces that drive reordering. It can also be used as a tool for winning and maintaining loyal customers by providing coupons and information on events.

Managing the IDs of “things” with an authentication platform that uses unique IDs

The TOPPAN Digital booth will feature demonstrations of its ID authentication platform. Giving each product a unique ID enables management at the individual item level and makes it possible to confirm the status of IDs on the platform.

Reading of RFID tags by users contributes to brand protection and enables usage for marketing purposes.

Dual frequency RFID tag label with opening detection function

This label supports two frequency bands: NFC, which enables reading with a smartphone, and UHF, which facilitates the bulk reading and long-range communication required for traceability. Detection of product opening is possible with either frequency band.

Actions ranging from long-distance logistics and inventory management to browsing of product information in stores or on a user’s smartphone are possible with a single label. This drives traceability across all industry processes and reduces the burden for inventory management by logistics or store staff as well as for stringent product inspection control.
