Fineprint Software Launches Low-Cost PDF Alternative to Acrobat
Press release from the issuing company
SAN FRANCISCO, Jun 19, 2001- FinePrint Software has unveiled pdfFactory, an easy-to-use and inexpensive tool for creating Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files.
pdfFactory is a powerful tool that enables users to convert documents into PDF files. Priced at only $39.95, pdfFactory offers a much lower cost-per-unit product than the $249 retail price of Adobe(R) Acrobat(R) 5.0, yet offers most of the features commonly used by both individual and business consumers.
Until now, PDF file creation has been expensive and complicated, often requiring multiple steps. With pdfFactory, any Windows application with printing capabilities can be used to create a PDF file. Any set of documents can be combined easily using the pdfFactory preview system. Unwanted pages can be deleted or blank pages inserted into the PDF file. An email function allows the PDF file to be emailed easily with a single click, all without typing a file name.
"As the demand for exchanging and downloading documents has intensified, PDF has become an industry standard," said Jonathan Weiner, president of FinePrint Software. "Unfortunately, the cost of providing an entire workforce with PDF file writing capabilities has been prohibitive, and the Acrobat application offers more features than many users need. Our aim with pdfFactory is to enable companies to provide more employees with PDF file writing capabilities and to offer an affordable tool for individuals who would otherwise not consider a PDF file writer because of its cost."
FinePrint Software has built its reputation as a provider of printing management utilities for users of desktop PCs. The company's flagship product, FinePrint, provides enhanced printing controls, enabling users to easily print multiple document pages onto a single sheet of paper, print booklets, preview print jobs before sending them to a printer, delete pages from a print job, embed letterheads, superimpose watermarks, and much more.
A trial version of pdfFactory is available for download at FinePrint's Web site, www.fineprint.com.
