Press release from the issuing company

First US Showing of drupa-Unveiled Automated Finishing Systems

Under the banner of “Finishing well starts with Tecnau”, Tecnau is excited to bring to PRINTING United Expo Booth C513 a pair of finishing systems incorporating powerful labor-saving automation features.  Both Revolution 50 Stack 5251L AutoSetup and StreamFolder 5152 were unveiled at the recent drupa exhibition in Dusseldorf to an international audience; now they will be shown for the first time in North America to attendees of PRINTING United Expo in Las Vegas (September 10-12).

Revolution 50 Stack 5251L AutoSetup

The Revolution 50 AutoSetup series represents Tecnau’s leap forward for automated roll to cut and stack applications. This innovative finishing system features:

  • full-bleed capabilities with automated page length and web imposition changes
  • changes triggered by a 2D Datamatrix – from 1up to 4up with no touch points
  • significantly reduced operator skill level need compared to non-automated finishing lines, making the system a good match for organizations facing challenges finding skilled labor

The AutoSetup system also includes standard Tecnau Revolution 50 cutline features, such as a slide-out knife assembly, decurler, and dynamic web aligner, with available Tecnau Connect IoT platform. These Revolution 50 features & options further reduce application challenges and labor requirements while increasing press uptime.  The Revolution 50 AutoSetup enables commercial and direct mail printers to move easily across applications, eliminating set up times and associated operating errors.

Tecnau’s exhibition of Revolution 50 AutoSetup is assisted by printed rolls supplied by Canon Solutions America (on Phoenix 70# Premier Inkjet Book) and Screen Americas (on Domtar LynxJET 70 lb. Text, Smooth Finish).

Revolution 50 StreamFolder 5152

StreamFolder 5152 state-of-the-art solution for roll to glued book-blocks features speeds up to 656 fpm (200 mpm), on-the-fly and automated format change and semi-automated imposition change.  StreamFolder f50 fold-heads and running perforation wheels shift automatically with application changes, along with Stacker s52 joggers and glue-heads.  The system plow-folds signatures for varying run lengths down to book-of-one for efficient, high-quality book production.  The Revolution 50 StreamFolder series is the ideal solution for short run book printers looking for productive, easy-to-use and simple-to-maintain solutions for their digital print operations.

The Revolution 50 StreamFolder series is paired at PRINTING United Expo with the optional Tecnau RoboLoad, a pick-up robot to automatically palletize the continuous output generated by highly productive book-block production lines without manual operating intervention.

Tecnau’s exhibition of Revolution 50 StreamFolder 5152 is assisted by printed rolls supplied by Fujifilm North America (on Domtar HuskyJET Inkjet Treated 60# Text) and Ricoh USA.

Tecnau’s Revolution 50 family features availability of Tecnau Connect, providing remote monitoring and diagnostics to minimize downtime on high speed, high productivity digital print lines. A graphically rich dashboard allows users to quickly access overall equipment efficiency (OEE) info, line and module status, as well as error history to allow identification of any recurring problems by identifying root causes, not just symptoms.

Also in its PRINTING United Expo booth C513, Tecnau continues the automation theme with a pair of additional finishing lines, Stack 1212 and CutReady:

Tecnau Stack 1212 with Kompac Phoenix 20 Coater

Reprising from PRINTING United Expo 2023 an example of Tecnau’s market leading portfolio of production finishing solutions for sheet-fed presses, Kompac’s Phoenix 20 S coater flood coats and feeds B2+ sheets to Tecnau’s Stack 1212 cut and stack system.  In this demonstration, the 1212 cross cuts, removes gutters and side trims, and presents finished, coated postcards stacked on the exit conveyor, allowing users to coat and cut in a single pass with no substrate manual handling. The line supports up to 21-up impositions, and paper weights up to 350 gsm, while running at speeds up to 6000 input sheets per hour.  Use Stack 1212 to cut postcards, letters, books, brochures, and calendars down to size.

The joint Kompac/Tecnau line features:

  • Automated cut/stack from B2 sheets – offline guillotine labor is eliminated
  • Small footprint – consumes much less space than competitive offerings
  • Offline configuration – depending on the application environment, users may be able to support coating, cutting and trimming output from multiple digital & offset presses
  • Economical operation – Simple, intuitive operation eliminates manual processes

Tecnau’s exhibition of Stack 1212 is assisted by printed sheets supplied by HP Indigo (on MetsaBoard Prime FBB Bright 12PT).

Tecnau CutReady

Tecnau’s CutReady offers an economical and capable alternative for cutting and stacking output from high-speed continuous web inkjet presses.  CutReady features the TC 7000 TS guillotine cutter delivering sheets to a shingling conveyor.  The guillotine cutter shines at delivering straight, guillotine-cut edges for bleed applications on heavy paper, avoiding the scalloped white edge characteristic of rotary-cut sheets.  At PRINTING United Expo, CutReady is featured running a postcard application on rolls of WestRock Tango 16PT C2S, 320 gsm paper printed by the HP PageWide Advantage 2200.

Elsewhere around the PRINTING United Expo floor, the recently introduced Tecnau Unwinder u50i feeds rolls to the Bowe Systec Fusion Speed 30K Inserter with BoxIT Automatic Postal Traying.  The Unwinder u50i features run speeds up to 910 fpm (275 mpm) and web widths up to 23” (584 mm) with remote diagnostic capabilities through Tecnau Connect.
