E-commerce Packaging from Paper to Box in 36 Hours

Press release from the issuing company

The Austrian packaging manufacturer packit! boasts a production hall full of BOBST machines and shows, how modern converting with flexible high-tech equipment leads to an efficient packaging production.

What is the solution to tackling short deadlines? Specialised in E-flute, F-flute and laminated materials, packit! in Austria has invested in a fully automatic warehouse with a capacity of 53.000 palettes to cut down delivery times to a minimum. However, the company is also able to produce e-commerce boxes from paper web to pallet ready for transport within 36 hours, thanks to the efficiency of its production.

With two impressive litho-laminating lines, packit! can produce litho-laminated board in single and double-wall. With the MASTERFLUTE TOUCH the choice between web-to-web or sheet-to-web laminating also gives the company a lot of flexibility to produce different products answering the various customer needs. As for the production of an e-commerce box, the application of tear strips can be integrated directly into the production of sheets.

Speed and accuracy make the MASTERFLUTE TOUCH top of its range. It can run up to 12,000 s/h or 220 m/min., with excellent board quality thanks to register accuracy with POWER ALIGNER and the unique GAPRO glue system. Applying only the strict minimum of glue, this system is also one of the reasons why box production times can be kept short: reducing the amount of glue keeps the sheets flat and almost immediately ready for die-cutting.

Having recently invested in a MASTERCUT 1.65 PER, packit! has now a die-cutter which allows to run E-flute as well as double-wall corrugated board and preserve the quality of laminated surfaces thanks to top feeding. It’s versatility and automated setups also mean that shift planning is easier and that setups can be done quickly. Equipped with the BREAKER and PALLETIZER peripherals, the stripped and blanked e-commerce box blank patches delivered by the MASTERCUT 1.65 PER can be arranged and palletized automatically in many different ways. Converting a wide range of box designs and substrates and being able to offer a large choice of palletizing possibilities makes sure that this fully automated die-cutting line can meet even specific converter and customer requests.

To fold and glue the e-commerce box while adding a self-adhesive tape in one single go, packit! opted for its MASTERFOLD 230 equipped with POLYVACUUM and GYROBOX. The former enables the integration of a system adding the self-adhesive tape, while ensuring the smooth and steady transport of the blanks, while the latter turns the boxes 180 degrees to position them for the folding-gluing process. Avoiding two separate process steps, the e-commerce boxes are finished in one run and - after a short final quality check from operators - palletized and dispatched. 36 hours after starting the process with the production of the corrugated board sheets, the e-commerce boxes are ready to leave the factory to be delivered.

To increase the efficiency of their production lines, packit! has taken advantage of the BOBST training offer to increase their operator’s knowledge about the machines and processes. This has improved maintenance and reduced downtime. For more complex issues, the company can count on remote assistance, including virtual reality tools, to maximize machine running time. Indeed, packit! is a good example to see how the combination of modern technology and human know-how is key to optimizing production and delivery times.
