Extensis Announces Preflight Online Support for QuarkXPress Passport Files
Press release from the issuing company
PORTLAND, Ore.- June 6, 2001-- Extensis Products Group today announced that it has added support for the inspection, reporting, and collection of QuarkXPress Passport documents to Preflight Online, its patent-pending online preflighting service.
The update gives Preflight Online full functionality within the French, German and Swedish versions of Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator and on localized versions of the Mac and Windows operating systems.
QuarkXPress Passport is the multi-language version of QuarkXPress, which includes dictionaries for languages such as French, German and Swedish. Extensis plans to expand compatibility later this year to include other languages supported by Passport, including Italian, Spanish, Norwegian and Dutch. Preflight Online previously supported standard English QuarkXPress files and PDF files.
The web-based service now not only inspects Passport documents and PDFs created in these languages, but report details, such as font names, font types, color names and color modes in the local language.
This update will allow Preflight Online to be adopted by a broader range of publishers and print service providers in Europe. The service has already gained much attention in the UK, where it has been adopted by The Keene Group, a major reprographics firm that provides prepress services for the Financial Times, The Guardian, and The Trinity Mirror.
As with Preflight Online's file analysis, the entire collection and uploading of jobs is performed within the web browser environment, without the need for additional desktop software. The new Passport services are free and are included in the basic Preflight Online subscription price, with no additional fees or transaction charges.
"The addition of Passport support expands the Preflight Online system into a global preflighting solution for service providers around the world, handling all the tasks associated with helping customers submit complete print-ready jobs over the Internet,'' said Senior Product Manager Joseph Schorr. "Preflight Online is the only purely web-based solution that for one subscription price includes detailed file inspection, an integrated help system, built-in collection and compression, and seamless file delivery. This added support will make it possible for global enterprises to use the same preflighting system, for unprecedented consistency in file prepress and printing.''
Since its launch as a commercial service supporting PDF workflows in the fall of 2000, Preflight Online has been incorporated into customer Web sites in both North America and Europe. Current customers include AP AdSEND, the digital advertising delivery service of The Associated Press; full-service printers such as Sells Printing in New Berlin, Wisconsin; publishers such as CMP Media, Inc. in Manhasset, New York; and government agencies such as the US Geological Survey (USGS).
