TOPPAN Holdings Declares Support for TNFD Recommendations

Press release from the issuing company

Registers as TNFD Early Adopter and joins TNFD Forum

Tokyo – TOPPAN Holdings Inc. (TOPPAN Holdings), has announced its support for the final recommendations launched by the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures in September 2023 and has completed TNFD Early Adopter registration on the TNFD website as an organization aiming to drive disclosure in line with the recommendations. TOPPAN Holdings will also participate in the TNFD Forum, an international organization established as a platform for discussion between corporations and financial institutions that support the recommendations.

Following the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), the TNFD has been launched to drive appropriate assessment of risks and opportunities related to natural capital and biodiversity. By encouraging financial institutions and corporations to disclose related information, the TNFD is driving the establishment of a disclosure framework for nature-related risks in order to shift financial flows toward nature-positive outcomes, with a global goal of halting and reversing biodiversity loss by 2030.

The TOPPAN Group has consistently implemented various initiatives to accelerate its efforts to help shape a sustainable society in which all forms of life can continue to thrive into the future. It has enhanced and expanded the TOPPAN Group Environmental Vision 2050, which was established in 2021 to set out the Group’s long-term approach to global environmental issues, adding the theme of “Preserving Biodiversity” and declaring its commitment to collaborating with the entire supply chain and local communities in addressing environmental issues. At the same time, the TOPPAN Group revised its Medium-and-Long-Term Environmental Targets for Fiscal 2030, the target year for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This included setting new targets for procurement of raw materials of paper, to be achieved through efforts across the supply chain, and for conservation of regions in which humans coexist with nature, an initiative to contribute to local communities.

TOPPAN Holdings participates in the 30by30 Alliance for Biodiversity, which was launched by the Japanese Ministry of the Environment in collaboration with a number of other public and private sector organizations. In October last year a biotope and surrounding green space within the grounds of the TOPPAN Technical Research Institute in Saitama Prefecture, Japan, was certified as a site of natural symbiosis. The TOPPAN Group also organizes events in which employees and their families have the opportunity to learn about biodiversity and participates in activities organized by NPOs and local governments in the vicinity of its operating sites.

By supporting the TNFD, the TOPPAN Group will further reinforce its efforts focused on conservation of biodiversity and undertake initiatives in collaboration with all of its stakeholders and local communities to drive a sustainable society as a creator of social value.
