Press release from the issuing company
ORLANDO, Florida (May 22, 2001) - WAM!NET Government Services, Inc., a subsidiary of global information technology services provider, WAM!NET, Inc., today announced that it will be featuring its range of network, data storage, application integration and professional services at the General Services Administration (GSA) International Products and Services Expo (May 22 - 24, Orlando). Designed for the Federal supply acquisition community, the exposition and training programs include more than 800 commercial exhibitors whose products and services are available through the GSA Federal Supply Service (FSS).
At its exhibit, WAM!NET will demonstrate how its global IT platform addresses agencies' need to quickly and easily access various applications, such as document management, distance learning, knowledge management, RFP processing, project management and geographic information systems. WAM!NET also will showcase the GSAAuctions… e-commerce platform for which it provides network, storage, hosting and integration services. The site enables the FSS to efficiently sell surplus government property through an online auction marketplace. With auction activity commencing in January 2001, GSAAuctions already has raised over $1.5 million and attracted more than 19,000 registered bidders.
"We are pleased to bring our secure, fully managed network and storage platform, and application hosting and integration capabilities to the government marketplace," said Karen Adler, senior vice president, Federal Government Services, WAM!NET. "Our services allow agencies to achieve secure, connectivity within a fully digital workflow and provide a global platform from which they can access the applications they need. Further, through the addition of new graphical and XML interfaces, we have continued to improve the customizable aspects of WAM!NET storage services, allowing for easier integration within customer workflows."
WAM!NET launched efforts to market and sell services to the government marketplace in June 2000, following the company's approval by the General Services Administration to sell on the GSA Schedule for Electronic Commerce Services.
In October 2000, WAM!NET was awarded a tier one subcontractor role on the EDS-led Information Strike Force team responsible for the $6.9 billion Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) contract. WAM!NET will be responsible for local, base and metropolitan area networks for NMCI, connecting over 300,000 user desktops.
