CreoScitex Enhances ThermoFlex Platesetter for the Packaging Market

Press release from the issuing company

BEDFORD, MA --May 14, 2001 -- CreoScitex, a division of Creo Products Inc. (NASDAQ: CREO; TSE: CRE) announces an important new development in sleeve imaging on the award-winning ThermoFlex(tm) wide web flexographic platesetters for the packaging industry. ThermoFlex was recently shown at the Converting Machinery/Materials Exposition International in Chicago. Flexo sleeves allow packaging customers to minimize down time, improve productivity, and to switch between imaging on sheets and continuous photopolymer sleeves. Sleeve imaging maintains the same high quality 830nm laser thermal imaging and external drum technology available on all ThermoFlex products. The CreoScitex design minimizes manual sleeve handling and eliminates the need for an auxiliary crane. Other benefits include increased plate quality and repeatability, and the elimination of remounting. The use of digitally imaged sleeves also improves the quality of the printed product through smoother vignettes, open shadows, cleaner print, fine reverses, perfect register and seamless images. On-press benefits include the reduction of up-to-color time, set register time, set impression time, the number of washes, change over time and plate breakage. Insider Viewpoint... "CreoScitex is listening to the market," says Bob Dalton, Product Manager for the ThermoFlex product line, "and now the technology is sophisticated enough to fulfill the complex needs of the packaging industry including the faster make-ready, shorter mounting time and better registration that 'imaging in the round' delivers." Award Winner... The ThermoFlex platesetter, known for its ease of use, was developed for the unique requirements of the flexographic converter and tradeshop and won the FPPA Technological Innovator of 1999 Award. Availability... ThermoFlex devices ordered today can be upgraded to sleeve imaging capability when the sleeve option is available in 12 to 18 months.
