Lamcom Technologies of Montreal have taken delivery of a swissQprint Nyala 4 flatbed printer in mid-April 2023. This addition to their print room aims to provide their customers with new, exceptional applications and to increase productivity and flexibility.

Daniel Lefevre, President of Lamcom Technologies, is convinced that print service providers need to adjust to changing requirements in commercial signage and visual communication. “Our customers deserve optimal service at any time and in every aspect.”

Quest for novel applications
Lamcom Technologies is a wide format digital printer based in Montreal, Canada, specializing in POS applications and meeting special demands for personalized print products. Whatever the size of the print run, short turnaround time is crucial in this business. Also, Lamcom’s demanding customers increasingly ask for creations to stand out of the crowd. That is why the team is on an ongoing quest for applications beyond the usual offer. But the idea alone does not make the solution. It also takes the appropriate tools.

Having been in the business for 35 years, Daniel has long identified two cornerstones of success for his enterprise: “Firstly, you need state-of-the-art equipment, secondly, it takes highly qualified and motivated staff to get the most out of the ever-evolving technologies.”

Textured and white printing
“We found that the Nyala flatbed printer from swissQprint offered the capabilities and the flexibility we were looking for to improve our capabilities,” said Daniel. This versatile Swiss-made printer has been the best-selling printer in its class for eight years in Europe. Among other options, it has nine freely configurable color channels. Lamcom Technologies was keen to have white and effect varnish equipped to enable them to create unconventional applications. That includes spot varnish and ADA/braille as well as a range of other visual and haptic embellishments. By layering ink, the printer produces reliefs of up to 8 mm (1/32”).

Kevin Graham, Sales Manager at swissQprint America, added: “Lamcom already has a great reputation for high quality work. The versatility of the Nyala 4 is the perfect fit to help strengthen that reputation by adding different capabilities all while supporting their current workflow.”

126” roll to roll capability
During the evaluation two of the many swissQprint features convinced the Operation Manager, François Allard, the most: One was the roll to roll option that converts the flatbed printer into a reliable 126” roll to roll printer. Changing from rigid to roll stock – and back – only takes a few minutes. The other was the strong swissQprint Tip Switch Vacuum (pat. pend.) that enables quick and easy control of the vacuum. Masking is practically obsolete. “You can switch 256 individual segments on or off with your fingertips within seconds,” François said enthusiastically.

“Given the versatility and high efficiency of this printer, we expect to both expand our offerings and increase our productivity significantly,” Daniel concluded.
