UK headquartered repro company Reproflex3 has beaten intense competition to win the Digital Engineering Technology Award at the prestigious Insider Made in the North East Awards 2023.

The company will now represent the region at the national Made in the UK Awards in Liverpool on 29 June, which showcases the best of the best, drawing winners from a total of nine regional manufacturing award ceremonies from across the UK in the last year.

The Digital Engineering Technology Award recognises the company that has best used or developed software technology or technical processes to solve problems or add value for customers.

Entries were invited from engineering and manufacturing companies or software development businesses operating in the manufacturing sector.

Reproflex3’s award-winning entry focused on Vortex, its most recent new generation flexographic technology for the print packaging industry.

Vortex has been created for printing on paper, corrugated cardboard and plastic film. It uses a unique set of tools developed by Reproflex3 to stabilise the flexographic print process to create superior print consistently and efficiently.

The technology has been specifically designed to seamlessly integrate with existing print workflows to optimise processes and deliver fast, efficient, precision printing. It works with the printer on the shopfloor to guide them in creating an ‘A’ grade print output.

The result is gravure-quality print with extended colour space potential, ink savings and a significantly reduced dot gain.

The Made in the North East Judging Panel, commented: “Reproflex3 operates within the packaging industry supply chain, creating outstanding visuals in flexible corrugated packaging and labels for a large range of consumer products. The judges were impressed with the development of its flexo print solution that offers outstanding print quality, enhanced speed to market and multiple production cost and time savings that has been described as a ‘game-changer’ for print marketing.”

Describing the significance of the win for Reproflex3, Group CEO Andrew Hewitson, said: “Hard working people in manufacturing and engineering play a vital role in the North East economy every day.

“It’s fitting these respected awards acknowledge and celebrate the fantastic work companies large and small are delivering in our region, despite the difficulties we continue to face in rising energy costs, supply chain challenges and recruitment.

“We are honoured to have been recognised alongside some of the region’s most innovative and respected businesses and feel very proud of this achievement.”

Reproflex3 was launched in 1996 by co-founders Andrew Hewitson and Trevor Lowes and is headquartered in Cramlington, Northumberland.

Today the company operates sites in the UK, Dubai, India and New Zealand. It also deploys its flexographic print technologies through technical partnerships in the USA and mainland Europe. The business employs more than 80 pre-press specialists world-wide, delivering its pre-press services and multi-award-winning flexographic screening technologies into 20 countries.
