Do you have an HP, Kodak, Ricoh, or Xerox digital press that uses a fifth-color (or more) option to print embellishments? If so, we’d like to hear from you!

Taktiful, the Digital Embellishment Experts, have teamed with WhatTheyThink to conduct a first-of-its-kind study of digital ink and toner embellishment use. The goal of this study is to find out more about how print service providers are using the specialty inks and toners that are available as options for their digital presses. The results of this study will provide insights into the size of the embellishment market and identify areas for improvement as well as further market opportunities for vendors and print providers alike that will help grow this segment of the industry.

Digital press owners/operators that use their digital presses to print metallic inks, fluorescent shades, cool clear effects and textures, invisibles, pearlescents, and more are welcome to participate. This short survey will only take 5–7 minutes to complete. Your responses will be kept confidential and combined with all of the others in survey totals. We will not release your name or answers to anyone; this is strictly a research project, and responses will not be used to create sales leads for industry suppliers.

All participants in the study can choose to receive an executive summary of the research findings.

“These are exciting times for digitally embellished print effects,” said Kevin Abergel, President of Taktiful. “However, utilization rates of specialty inks and toners are still relatively low despite the rapidly evolving technology. Through this study in partnership with our good friends at WhatTheyThink and the support of the OEM vendors, we aim to uncover the challenges facing today’s print service providers and isolate the obstacles hindering a more rapid market adoption for specialty ink and toners. The knowledge gained from this study will help grow the global demand for digitally embellished print by working together on educating the market through the data we uncover.”

“Digital embellishment is a growing and dynamic part of today’s printing industry and nobody is covering the trends, developments, and news around this topic better than Taktiful and WhatTheyThink. We’re really happy to be working with Taktiful to bring this study to the industry and I look forward to the actionable insights that come out of it,” said Eric Vessels, President & CEO of WhatTheyThink.

“Print is much more than Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black (CMYK)—now inline digital embellishment using special inks is a growing and dynamic part of today’s printing industry,” said Álvaro Mantilla, Supplies Category Manager, HP Industrial Print AMS. “We at HP Indigo are happy to be working with Taktiful to bring this study to the industry and are looking forward to the actionable insights that may come out of it.”

“If you have a digital press capable of producing embellishments, such as the RICOH Pro C 7200X series, we need your feedback—the industry needs your feedback!” said Mark C. Little, Sr. Manager, Marketing & Business Development–Commercial Printing, RICOH Graphic Communications. “The demand for digital embellishment, at all levels, is growing and it is important that we (the industry) understand the process at the printer-customer level. This information can help drive innovation strategies in digital embellishment production hardware, software, services, supply chain, and even education programs.”
