The Central Florida commercial printer, who prides itself on continuously investing in the latest technology, recently installed a new POLAR D 80 PLUS automated, high-speed cutter from HEIDELBERG.

A Larger Sheet Size, A Compact Footprint

Regardless of paper availability, production schedule, or last-minute rush jobs, Ranger “delivers what we promise, when we promise it,” said Bill Lane, President of Ranger Printing. “Being true to your word goes a long way with customers.” Previously equipped with HEIDELBERG’s smaller POLAR 66 cutter, Ranger was unable to cut down larger 28 x 40 inch parent sheets for its digital presses, and with current paper shortages, the company was struggling to find the best paper to accommodate its customers’ varied needs. Ranger’s new POLAR D 80 PLUS cutter, installed in July 2022, can cut sheets up to 31.5 inches wide with a higher stack height of four inches. According to Lane, “The larger sheet sizes means we can cut a wider variety of paper types and sizes, so we are able to take on jobs that we had to turn away in the past.”

The machine stores up to 1,998 cutting sequences that can easily be recalled for operator simplicity. With an ultra-smooth stainless table surface equipped with air jets, the paper is moved more easily. “The paper glides as opposed to having to manually lift and turn it,” said Lane. “It’s a lot easier on our hands.” The enhanced automation and ergonomic design have boosted the efficiency of both the front end of production (cutting down parent sheets) and the back end with finishing, which includes 20,000+ postcards Ranger prints and mails every week.

Primarily a digital shop, Ranger is limited on floor space in its plant. The POLAR D 80 PLUS was the perfect replacement for the POLAR 66 due to its compact footprint. Even though it can cut larger sheet sizes than its previous cutter, Ranger was impressed its new POLAR was able to fit within the same space on the floor. Upon deciding to purchase another POLAR, Lane said, “We had another cutter from a different manufacturer previously, but it wasn’t anywhere near the quality. We like the product reliability and the availability and level of service we get from HEIDELBERG.”
