Press release from the issuing company
In 1922, the "big" new paper machine number 1 replaced its two obsolete predecessors from the early days of industrialization. 100 years later, it is the smallest of three paper machines at DREWSEN SPEZIALPAPIERE in Lachendorf and responsible for 15% of production. On its special birthday and thanks to regular investments over the years, it is still considered to be not only state of the art but also competitive.
The core competence of the paper machine is security papers. For forgery-proof documents, all of our papers are manufactured in a controlled environment in Lachendorf providing security features such as watermarks, test pen reactions, sensitization, visible and invisible fibres and dots in UV light plus the addition of threads.
DREWSEN SPEZIALPAPIERE supplies these papers to customers all over the world, who in turn use them to make contracts, vehicle registration certificates, birth certificates, cheques, vouchers, prescriptions for medicines, tax stamps, tickets and much much more. This "small" paper machine also plays an important role in the development of new products. Production samples and small requirements for developing markets can be produced more inexpensively and with greater flexibility on a small machine. If the market grows, the larger and faster machines then take over.
There are also gifts: For its one hundredth birthday, DREWSEN SPEZIALPAPIERE is donating a new film press to the machine. The multi-million dollar investment will reduce energy consumption, increase output and create more options for coated papers.
These are good reasons to look back on a long life and also to look ahead. The celebration with the staff took place at a barbecue - under chestnut trees of a similar age to Paper Machine 1.
