Bowne Names Douglas B. Fox to its Board of Directors

New York, March 8, 2001 -– The Board of Directors of Bowne & Co., Inc. (NYSE: BNE), the world’s largest financial printer and a leader in document and information management, has elected Douglas B. Fox as a Director at its meeting in New York today.
Mr. Fox, 53, is senior vice president of marketing and strategy for Compaq Computer Corporation, a leading supplier of computing products. Prior to joining Compaq, he was the chief marketing officer and senior vice president of marketing at International Paper Co. and held various senior management positions at Times Mirror and Landmark Communications.
Mr. Fox is filling the seat of Robert M. Conway, senior director of The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc., who has decided to retire from Bowne’s Board. Fox was elected to be a Class II Director. All Class II directors will be nominated for election for new three-year terms at Bowne’s shareholder meeting on May 24, 2001.
Mr. Fox received a BS/BA from Northwestern University with a double major in both Corporate Finance and Investment Management. He also holds an MBA in Marketing with a minor in Quantitative Methods from Northwestern University.
