Fortune describes its annual listing as the definitive report card on corporate reputations, weighing in on the largest U.S. companies, as judged by executives, directors and analysts asked to rank companies in their own industry. Forbes' Platinum 400 recognizes companies who are industry leaders in long-term and short-term return on capital, growth in both sales and earnings and other financial metrics.
