Banta Named on Forbes and Fortune Listings of Top Companies
Press release from the issuing company
MENASHA, WI 2/14/01 Banta Corporation (NYSE:BN) was recently named to two of America's most prestigious corporate listings: Fortune magazine's "America's Most Admired Companies" and Forbes magazine's Platinum 400 "Best Big Companies in America."
Fortune describes its annual listing as the definitive report card on corporate reputations, weighing in on the largest U.S. companies, as judged by executives, directors and analysts asked to rank companies in their own industry. Eight criteria are considered, ranging from long-term investment value and financial soundness to management quality and social responsibility.
Forbes' Platinum 400 recognizes companies who are industry leaders in long-term and short-term return on capital, growth in both sales and earnings and other financial metrics. Additionally, the selected companies are graded on "personality traits" such as the ability to adapt to change, innovation, effective management of economic change, resiliency despite Wall Street's doubts, and prudent financial practices - even in boom times.
"We are honored by our selection to these two prominent lists," said Banta Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Donald D. Belcher. "Over the past five years Banta has successfully repositioned itself, rapidly evolving from a company primarily known as a large U.S.-based printer, into a global enterprise focused on two business sectors - printing and supply-chain management. This dual business focus creates a unique business combination that differentiates us and creates powerful competitive advantages. Our strong print sector generates significant cash and earnings; and our supply-chain management sector is a high-growth, high-return global enterprise linked to the technology industry's increasing focus on outsourcing. This effective business mix provides us with a distinctive and proven platform for future expansion."
In Fortune's "America's Most Admired Companies" list, Banta was ranked second in the printing industry category. In the Forbes Platinum 400, Banta was listed in the entertainment category, which includes large media companies such as Gannett Co., Clear Channel Communications, McGraw-Hill, New York Times and Reader's Digest.
