Grand Rapids, Mich., February 7, 2001 - X-Rite, Incorporated (NASDAQ/NMS: XRIT), a leading global provider of precision measurement devices, systems and processes that measure color, light and shape, today announced its electro-optics subsidiary, Labsphere, has signed an agreement with Keithley Instruments, Inc. (NYSE:KEI) which blends each company’s expertise in their respective measurement technologies for use in Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) fiber-optic telecommunications. Keithley is an innovator and manufacturer of precision electronic measurement instruments, while Labsphere, Inc. is a world leader in reflectance technologies and related optical test equipment.
X-Rite, through its Labsphere subsidiary, has been increasing its focus on the telecom market over the past year with its sophisticated custom integrating sphere systems product line. Compared to competitive devices, Labsphere’s proprietary technology enables its telecommunication customers to measure 20 times greater power input from solid state lasers and DWDM sources. The optical telecom components market is currently growing at rates in excess of 60 percent annually. This agreement further contributes to the increasing order pace that Labsphere is now receiving from the test and equipment portion of the telecom market.
