Boston, MA is the Second Smyth Company Facility to Become SGP Certified
Sayville, N.Y. – The Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP), the leading authority in sustainable printing certification in North America, announced today that Smyth Companies has certified its second print facility. This one, located in Boston, MA, joins the Bedford, VA location which was certified earlier this year. They are the first of four Smyth facilities on track to become SGP certified in 2020.
For more than a decade, Smyth has been making a commitment to itself and its customers to protect the health of the earth's natural environment and conserve its energy resources. SGP's multi-attribute comprehensive certification was a natural progression and significant next step for Smyth because it fully encompasses operation's production and office practices along with proven methodology specifically developed for the printing industry. Smyth looks forward to using best practices outlined by SGP to enhance its processes for making socially responsible decisions which positively impact the environment, providing its customers with sustainable supply chain options, and safeguarding the health and safety of its employees.
"The Boston certification shows our continued commitment to sustainability," said Scott Fisher, president. "We're very proud of the environmental successes we are making through our sustainability initiatives and the added value they bring to our employees, customers, communities, and the earth. Looking ahead, our Smyth team is excited to continue building on to those successes."
Similar to the Smyth-Bedford facility, Smyth-Boston has implemented a wide range of sustainability initiatives. These have included change-behavior processes to help reduce energy usage and material waste in production and office areas. Finding an environmentally friendly solution for foil waste, it anticipates being able to recycle approximately 20,000 pounds of foil every six weeks. The facility is also working to find new ways to plan and manage label overproduction that align with its sustainability goals.
Print facilities interested in eliminating waste, reducing energy consumption, transitioning to sustainable materials, and winning new business from organizations that require sustainable printing practices should visit www.sgppartnership.org/certification to learn more about becoming SGP certified.
