Addition of Case Binding Equipment Streamlines Hard Cover Book Finishing Resulting in Faster Turnaround and Less Waste

Book publishers can now realize faster turn times for POD hardcover books

San Jose, Calif. – BR Printers, a provider of print and marketing services, value chain and logistics management to Silicon Valley and the publishing industry’s most recognizable names recently deployed a semi-automatic case binding system with automatic cover trimmer in its Independence, Kentucky digital print book manufacturing facility.

The fully integrated system features the latest technology from the world’s leading provider of POD hardcover production solutions, GP2 Technologies, Inc. The automated process trims cover sheets precisely where and when needed, solving one of the most common causes of scrap in POD one-off and ultra-short run cover trimming. Bar-code driven for simplicity of operation and accuracy; the system uses customer data to drive improved productivity when compared to alternative methods of short run production.

“The CT-1 Cover Trimer and Cover-1 Semi-Automatic Casemaking System permits us to finish case bound books more efficiently,” said Jeff Royer, VP Book Manufacturing in Kentucky, “allowing publishers to get their content in market faster while limiting their inventory exposure by producing only what they need in an ultra-short run environment.”

In addition to this recent equipment upgrade, BR provides supply chain solutions by printing in short run or ultra-short run quantities thereby limiting inventory exposure. Fulfillment operations permit the packaging and shipping of just printed books directly to the school, student or end user, bypassing internal warehousing operations, resulting in even more savings.
