In any business organization, the sales department drives revenue. Even with the best manufacturing operation, the most advanced technology, and a forward-thinking management team, business results can still fall flat if print service providers do not have highly effective sales management in place. Many of today’s print service providers under-invest in their sales efforts, placing a greater concentration on daily production, mailing, shipping, and distribution. The sales process becomes an afterthought in many cases, but it deserves more attention. The best sales forces have strong sales managers and sales management processes in place to deliver double-digit business results.

In late 2016, InfoTrends published a study entitled Best Practices of High-Performance Print Sales Organizations. When survey respondents were asked about their sales management challenges, the top responses included pricing pressures, hiring new reps, and improving reps’ selling skills.
