K2 is the second largest mountain on earth, and it is a challenge to those who climb it. Xitron, a Hybrid Software company, recently took on a different challenge, creating a complete offset prepress workflow that doesn’t dig deep into your pocket.

Xitron has been around since 1977 was acquired by Global Graphics in 2019 and is now part of the Hybrid Software Group. The Xitron Navigator is one of the most trusted names in RIP architecture with over 30,000 installations worldwide. When combined with Raster Blaster Pro it drives more than 200 of the most popular CTP engines in use today. However, while Navigator is a great RIP it is missing some necessary prepress workflow tools so the end user needed to procure on their own.

At drupa 2024, Xitron introduced K2 a new software system that integrates some of the Hybrid Software offerings to create a complete workflow. This includes the powerful Harlequin Core RIP, Global Graphics’ Mako Core and the Intelligent Document Object Model which provides preflight and PDF optimization, along with ink remapping. It also includes color management technology from Color Logic. This is where the Color Exchange Format, or CxF support resides.

As jobs flow through K2, they remain in their intermediate file format of PDF, right up until interpretation and rasterization. This means there is a host of functionality that can be applied to the PDF, according to the job specifications. K2 also includes in-RIP trapping with IntelliTrap; the PDF trapping engine developed for K2 by Hybrid Software.

K2’s dynamic imposition allows you to quickly prepare jobs for final plate, hard copy proofing, and electronic proofing. Operators can view the imposed work and release it manually or set up for total automation.

K2’s dynamic approach to imposition layouts gives you wide latitude when it comes to scheduling jobs, by supporting auto templates that will allow you to change the press and the necessary imposition.

Der K2 ist der zweithöchste Berg der Erde und eine Herausforderung für alle Bergsteiger. Xitron, ein Unternehmen der Hybrid Software Group, hat sich kürzlich einer anderen Herausforderung gestellt: der Entwicklung eines kompletten Workflows zur Offsetdruckvorstufe, für den man nicht tief in die Tasche greifen muss.

Xitron gibt es seit 1977. Im Jahr 2019 wurde das Unternehmen von Global Graphics übernommen; mittlerweile gehört es zur Hybrid Software Group. Der Xitron Navigator hat sich im Bereich der RIP-Architektur mit über 30.000 Installationen weltweit einen äußerst vertrauenswürdigen Namen gemacht. In Kombination mit Raster Blaster Pro steuert der Xitron Navigator mehr als 200 der aktuell beliebtesten CTP-Engines. Der Xitron Navigator ist eine hervorragende RIP-Software, allerdings fehlen einige notwendige Workflow-Tools für die Druckvorstufe – diese müssen separat beschafft werden.

Auf der drupa 2024 stellt Xitron nun K2 vor. Dieses neue Softwaresystem integriert einige der Angebote von Hybrid Software, sodass ein umfangreiches Workflow-Paket entsteht. Enthalten sind der leistungsstarke Harlequin Core RIP, Mako Core von Global Graphics sowie das Intelligent Document Object Model für Preflight, PDF-Optimierung und Ink-Remapping. Auch Farbmanagement-Technologie von Color Logic ist dabei – darüber besteht auch Unterstützung für das Color Exchange Format (CxF).

Druckaufträge, die K2 durchlaufen, bleiben bis zur Interpretation und Rasterung in ihrem Zwischendateiformat PDF. Insofern können passend zu den Auftragsspezifikationen zahlreiche Funktionen auf das PDF-Dokument angewendet werden. K2 umfasst auch In-RIP-Trapping mit IntelliTrap, der von Hybrid Software für K2 entwickelten PDF-Trapping-Engine.

Mit dem dynamischen Ausschießen von K2 lassen sich Aufträge schnell für die endgültige Druckplatte, das Hardcopy-Proofing und das elektronische Proofing vorbereiten. Bediener können die ausgeschossenen Arbeiten einsehen und manuell freigeben oder für eine vollständige Automatisierung einrichten.

Aus dem dynamischen Ansatz von K2 zu Ausschießlayouts ergibt sich großer Spielraum bei der Planung von Aufträgen – die unterstützten automatischen Vorlagen ermöglichen Änderungen in Bezug auf die Druckmaschine und das erforderliche Ausschießen.
