WhatTheyThink and the drupa daily arranged to have several students from California Polytechnic State University travel to Düsseldorf. They helped produce the drupa daily and got to see their very first major industry trade event. Here are their impressions of drupa 24. 

Variety
Vielfalt

Being at drupa has been an awesome experience in my learning journey as a student. Understanding and seeing the different technologies and how they work has expanded my view of the printing industry. There is such a variety of products to satisfy the different needs and applications that the market demands. I am excited for the future of the printing industry and the new opportunities that come with it.

Auf der drupa zu sein, war eine großartige Erfahrung auf meiner Lernreise als Studentin. Die verschiedenen Technologien zu sehen und zu verstehen, wie sie funktionieren, hat meinen Blick auf die Druckindustrie erweitert. Es gibt eine solche Vielfalt an Produkten, die die unterschiedlichen Bedürfnisse und Anwendungen erfüllen, nach denen der Markt verlangt. Electric

The energy here is absolutely electric. Being a student, I knew I would be exposed to incredible learning opportunities, but it has wildly exceeded my expectations. I have witnessed technology that adds a whole new element to my idea of the industry. The importance of innovation has never been clearer. Everyone here is eager to show me something that will impact the industrial world I will eventually be a part of. The relative exclusivity of this opportunity combined with the passion shown by every single person on the floor has been invigorating. 

Die Energie hier ist absolut elektrisierend. Als Student wusste ich, dass ich hier unglaubliche Lernmöglichkeiten haben würde, aber meine Erwartungen wurden bei weitem übertroffen. Eye-Opening

Attending drupa has been an amazing and educational experience. I’ve never seen such powerful, large and technologically advanced presses before. Some of these machines are nearly 100 feet long, and watching them run has been eye-opening for what the future of print holds. The advancements in digital printing are remarkable, and when integrated with the latest automation technology and artificial intelligence, they provide exceptional levels of accuracy and efficiency. I am incredibly excited about the future of the print industry and grateful for the chance to witness these groundbreaking developments firsthand at drupa.

Die Teilnahme an der drupa war eine großartige und lehrreiche Erfahrung. Ich habe noch nie so leistungsstarke, große und technologisch fortschrittliche Druckmaschinen gesehen. What a time to be in print! As a student in print and graphic communication, I’ve had a fantastic four years of hands-on labs, technical skills and many projects to apply the concepts we’ve learned in courses. I’m amazed at each booth I visit walking the halls of drupa. It’s incredible to see where our industry has come from and where it is going. As a graduating senior, I’m excited to jump in.

Perspective
Perspektive

My experience at drupa has really given me a new perspective on the print industry. As a graphic communication major with a passion for packaging, walking through the seemingly never-ending showrooms has allowed me to put real faces to what I only ever saw as brands. This has helped me understand that the industry is built by regular people, with the same passion for print as me. I’m very grateful for the opportunity to travel to this expo as it has humanized the trade and empowered me to believe I have a place in it.

Meine Erfahrung auf der drupa hat mir wirklich eine neue Perspektive auf die Druckindustrie gegeben. Als Studentin im Hauptfach „Graphic Communications“ mit einer Leidenschaft für Verpackungen hat es mir der Gang durch die scheinbar endlosen Ausstellungshallen ermöglicht, den Menschen hinter den Marken zu begegnen. Dadurch habe ich verstanden, dass die Branche von ganz normalen Menschen aufgebaut wird, die dieselbe Leidenschaft für Druck haben wie ich. Ich bin sehr dankbar für die Gelegenheit, diese Messe zu besuchen - sie hat die Branche menschlicher gemacht und mir das Gefühl gegeben, einen Platz darin zu haben. —Mira Shupe

drupa has been such an amazing experience. Being able to see all the new technology that’s changing the industry and making connections with what I have learned at Cal Poly has been impactful in my own understanding of print. I love seeing the innovations and progressions towards making the industry more sustainable and productive, while still continuing to improve quality. I am very thankful for this opportunity!
