Kyocera Takes the Fast Track to Industrial Print with the Acquisition of NIXKA

Kyocera’s intention is clear: they are moving into the production print industry, and while they may be new to this market, NIXKA isn’t. They actually have 30 years of expertise in developing ink and material jetting solutions, with an impressive track record. This acquisition should help fast track them to their intention.

Kyocera is a Japanese multinational ceramics and electronics manufacturer headquartered in Kyoto, Japan. It was founded in 1959 as Kyoto Ceramic Company, and renamed Kyocera in 1982. It manufactures industrial ceramics, solar power generating systems, telecommunications equipment, office document imaging equipment, electronic components, semiconductor packages, cutting tools, and components for medical and dental implant systems. In the graphic arts and print industry, Kyocera is a well-known global brand in the development and production of inkjet printhead technologies.

Their growth has historically been driven by targeted acquisition and then organic segment growth. Kyocera’s annual revenue for 2022 was $16.367B, a 14.03% increase from 2021, and they are growing. In 2020, they announced “Our intention is clear, Kyocera is moving into the production print industry. We see an opportunity for improvement that we cannot ignore”. Since that announcement, Kyocera has been looking for ways to create a new business unit to execute on that intention. That announcement was followed by the introduction of the TASKalfa Pro 15000c, a150 ppm cut sheet inkjet press.
