Since the 19th century, he printing industry has been served by a network of independent regional associations that the reflect the on-the-ground interests and needs of the printer world. In fact, the national federation (first named UTA and then renamed and reorganized an renamed PIA after WWII) was created at a meeting in Chicago of these local associations.
They still exist and are key resources for our industry. Unfortunately, an ill-planned executive action by PUA led to the dissolution of the partnership earlier this year. It should be a goal for our industry to reunite the organizations, locally and nationally, into a stronger organization on a mutually equitable basis.
