Alcom Receives the 2019 KODAK SONORA PLATE Green Leaf Award

Press release from the issuing company

Alcom was recently recognized for outstanding achievement by Kodak, a global leader in fostering environmentally sustainable printing solutions. Alcom has won Kodak’s 2019 SONORA Green Leaf Award. The award is sponsored by Kodak to recognize their customers and share the great work they are doing for the environment. The award focuses on printers engaged in sound environmental practices that go beyond compliance.

“We are so proud of our team at Alcom for the global recognition from Kodak, “said Don Eichman, President & CEO. “Alcom team members are the best in the business. Without these outstanding passionate employees and their dedication to quality, this recognition would not have been possible. This achievement is an honor for everyone here.” Eichman also noted that “Kodak has been a strategic business partner of Alcom’s for more than 25 years and they have helped Alcom drive our business into the future.”

“We have reduced our environmental impact by using KODAK SONORA Process Free Plates for offset printing,” said Doug Yeager, COO. “Traditional printing plates are imaged on a platesetter, and then the plates are run through a bath of chemical developer and water in the plate processing equipment. Once processed, the plates are put on the printing press to begin printing. Process free plates are different. They use newer technology to skip the chemical processing step completely. Once they are imaged on the platesetter, they are ‘press ready’ and can be put on press immediately for printing. Skipping the processing step saves water and energy, removes chemicals and waste, and reduces the overall carbon footprint of printing. In addition, like most printing plates, SONORA Plates are made of high-grade aluminum, and used plates can be recycled as easily as soda cans,” said Yeager.

Alcom is located in the Greater Philadelphia area in Harleysville, PA. With over 73 years of service excellence in the industry, Alcom is a leading provider of integrated solutions for print, direct mail marketing and business development and offers solutions to fit their large sheetfed, cold-set web, large format and digital printing equipment.

“Alcom is focused on continuous improvement projects such as converting to controlled LED lighting throughout the facility, recycling of virtually all materials used in print production and overall operation, and installation of a complete energy efficient IT infrastructure,” says Doug Yeager, COO. Alcom is a third party certified Sustainable Green Printer through the Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGPP).
