The Responsible Sourcing Report 2025 documents the Care Chemicals division’s progress in the responsible sourcing of renewable raw materials.

The report focuses on the sustainable cultivation of palm (kernel) oil, coconut oil, castor oil, and bioactives.

BASF reaffirms its commitment to protecting forests and human rights, as well as to engaging smallholder farmers, despite regulatory and geopolitical challenges.

Ludwigshafen – BASF is continuously advancing the responsible sourcing of renewable raw materials in its Care Chemicals division. The Responsible Sourcing Report 2025 shows how the company is strengthening environmental and social standards along global supply chains while supporting customers in their green transformation.

The focus is on internationally recognized ESG standards, transparent supply chains, and close collaboration with partners. In 2025, BASF was able to trace about 98 percent of its global palm (kernel) oil and palm derivative volumes back to the oil mill level; 79.2 percent of the palm (kernel) oil was sourced from RSPO-certified sources. Due to limited market availability, the target for full certification of palmbased intermediates has been adjusted to 2030.

Through its Forest Protection Policy, BASF is committed to preventing deforestation and the conversion of valuable ecosystems, and to protecting human rights – among other things through the principle of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC).

Another focus is on engaging smallholder farmers, including in the supply chains for palm, coconut and castor oil. Projects in Asia and Latin America promote sustainable farming practices, improved working conditions, as well as higher incomes and better living standards.

Despite economic and geopolitical uncertainties, as well as the limited availability of RSPO-certified palm kernel oil, BASF reaffirms its goal of further advancing responsible sourcing as an integral part of sustainable business practices.

The Responsible Sourcing Report, introduced in 2023 as a further development of the Palm Progress Report published since 2016, provides annual transparency on how BASF’s Care Chemicals division implements and continuously develops the responsible sourcing of renewable raw materials.
