SGIA Offers Travel Grant Program for Students to Attend PRINTING United

Press release from the issuing company

10 post-secondary students will travel to Dallas to learn about the printing industry

Fairfax, Va. – The Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) will offer 10 post-secondary students the opportunity to attend PRINTING United (Dallas, October 23 - 25) as guests of the association.

“This is a chance for students to see the industry in action — the sights, sounds and smells of printing technologies — and to experience for themselves the breadth and depth of their chosen career field as well as other opportunities,” said Heidi Ashley, Director of Member Relations & Engagement, SGIA.

The students will spend time on the show floor with members of the Academy of Screen and Digital Printing Technologies and attend educational sessions. Part of the goal, according to Ashley, is to ignite the students’ enthusiasm for the printing industry — a key component of SGIA’s workforce development efforts and student support.

The Student Ambassador program is open to students who are over 18 and carry a 3.0 GPA (on a four-point scale) at a post-secondary SGIA Educational Institution member school. To be considered, students must complete an application and submit a cover letter explaining their goals for attending the show, a letter of recommendation from a professor or advisor, and a copy of their transcript.

“It’s critical that we grow the printing industry’s workforce, and PRINTING United will be an exciting display of all we have to offer,” Ashley said. “It’s a great place for students to network with their peers and professionals in the industry and see the vast range of options and career paths available to them after graduation.”

Candidates must apply no later than September 6, 2019. If accepted, the students must be available to travel to Dallas October 22 - 25.
