Press release from the issuing company
Bristol, United Kingdom – Dutch printing and labelling company, Telrol BV, based in Almere, has made the successful transition to Pulse Roll Label Products’ PureTone food packaging compliant (FPC) UV flexo ink system in its quest towards a sustainable future.
As part of the Dutch printer’s ongoing business transformation and continuous improvement programme, the switch to PureTone FPC inks took place at the end of February and was completed in less than one week. Full training and on-site technical support was provided as part of the changeover plan by Darren Gillespie, Technical Service Manager and Ben Howell, Technical Sales Manager – Export from Pulse Roll Label Products, in conjunction with the Bristol-based ink manufacturer’s Benelux distribution partner, Beijersbergen & Partners BV, based in Amersfoort.
Telrol BV, part of the Hansol Group, has 22 printing presses and boasts one of the largest installations of next generation MPS presses in Europe. As part of the transition, Adri Timmermans, Beijersbergen & Partners BV, matched 455 PMS colours using the high strength mono-pigmented PureTone FPC inks in advance of the changeover. This ensured that these formulations were ready for the quick transfer to Telrol’s GSE ink dispensers on day one, making the whole process extremely efficient.
Tom Kerssens, Managing Director, Beijersbergen & Partners BV said, “We could not have hoped for a smoother transition to the PureTone FPC ink system. The support and commitment we received from André and the Telrol team here in Almere has been exceptional. They have fully embraced the change to PureTone FPC and have been well-supported by the excellent technical expertise and on-site support provided by Darren and Ben. I have no doubt that the move to PureTone FPC inks will greatly assist Telrol in realising its ambitions to become a more efficient and sustainable printing operation. Personally, I am very excited to be working closely with the Telrol team as the company moves forward with its exciting transformation and future growth plans.”
Will Parker, Chief Operating Officer, Telrol BV, recognises the value of a closed loop colour management system to achieve optimal print quality and improve its production efficiencies and environmental credentials. He also stresses the importance of partnership in the company’s journey towards sustainability.
Parker said, “I am delighted that we are now well on our journey to improve Telrol’s capabilities and ecological standpoint over the next year and further ahead. Finding the right partners to help us achieve the highest print quality, whilst at the same time ensuring we safeguard our environment and build a sustainable future, is critical for us at Telrol. We chose to work with Pulse Roll Label Products and Beijersbergen & Partners because we believe the PureTone FPC ink system is best in class, and the technical support and service we receive, both from the team in Amersfoort and Bristol, is second-to none. I have every confidence that our investment in digital colour management and the switch to PureTone’s food packaging compliant ink system will help us move quickly into the next exciting phase of our company development.”
Knowledge transfer and audits featured heavily in the Pulse Roll Label Products’ changeover programme. During the transfer, full technical training was provided for Telrol’s team of ink technicians and printers including Colour Lead, André Wemerman. This covered: digital colour management using the PureTone FPC database created with X-Rite’s InkFormulation Software (IFS); digital standards; recipe correction and the transfer of formulations from IFS to Telrol’s GSE ink dispensers. Lamps and anilox were also inspected. An anilox roller audit was undertaken using Troika Systems’ AniCAM - consistent anilox engraving is critical, with effective anilox inventory maintenance and management minimising set-up time on press and reduce waste. Training also focused on leftover ink management to assist Telrol in reducing its ink inventory and waste as well as lowering disposal costs – key in supporting Telrol’s journey towards sustainability.
André Wemerman said, “The cooperation with team members from Beijersbergen and Pulse has been super. They engaged fully with me as to how best to approach the switch and what would be needed to make it a joint success. I think we have delivered a great progression for the company and for its sustainable future. It was a quick and really well-delivered project achieved by us all working in partnership.”
The very first print production saw the high strength PureTone FPC process inks run at an impressive 110 metres per minute on thermal top-coated paper. And the first 40 PMS colours on press demonstrated the benefits of PureTone FPC inks’ high strength mono-pigmented formulation in achieving a dE2000 under 2 first time, with just 2 colours requiring a minor adjustment taking less than 15 minutes.
Ben Howell, Technical Sales Manager – Export, Pulse Roll Label Products commented, “We would like to thank Will, André and the team at Telrol for having the confidence in us and our products and helping to make this such a successful transfer. As most label and package printers will know, changing ink supplier is not always an easy task, so to be able to changeover an entire ink system in less than one week is something we can all be very proud of. Our strong international partnership network, which ensures our customers have local product supply and technical expertise to hand, is also very evident here. We must thank Tommy and the team at Beijersbergen for their hard work, ongoing co-operation and support here in the Netherlands – it’s been a great team effort all round.”
Next up in the plan for Telrol is the move to Pulse Roll Label Products’ other food packaging compliant UV flexo inks, varnishes and coatings as well as its PureAqua range of water-based flexo inks and varnishes. Further training is planned both at Beijersbergen in Amersfoort and in Almere.
Telrol’s new partnership with Pulse Roll Label Products and the transfer to food packaging compliant inks and coatings, combined with its journey towards zero waste to landfill and other business initiatives in the pipeline, strongly indicates that the Dutch company is well on the way to building the strong foundation for a profitable and responsible future.
