Rootree Expands Operations to Supply Fully Compostable Flexible Packaging

Press release from the issuing company

Adds second HP Indigo 20000 Digital Press to fulfill capacity

Rootree of Canada, a Canadian provider of digitally printed flexible packaging, is expanding operations as it continues its mission to lead a global movement for greener packaging, including with fully compostable flexible packaging.

The Burlington, Ontario-based converting and packaging house is doubling its print capacity with the addition of a second HP Indigo 20000 Digital Press for flexible packaging. The higher capacity will support increasing demand for fully compostable flexible packaging using various technologies, including the HP Indigo Pack Ready Lamination Solution.

Rootree’s compostable pouches use films which are 100% home-compostable. Their next move in the innovation of fully compostable pouches is to continue with the development and certification of home-compostable inks and adhesives.

Recently rebranded as Rootree, the converter, previously known as Swiss Pack, was the first owner of the HP Indigo 20000 Digital Press in Canada, as well as the first owner of the Pack Ready Laminator in North America. The digital printing equipment helped it transform its business from fulfillment house to full-service packaging provider, manufacturing with up to 75% less waste than conventional packaging manufacturing.

“Rootree has made a commitment in the industry to be the most environmentally conscious packaging company in the world by addressing the full packaging lifecycle,” said Philippe St-Cyr, Rootree general manager. “Rootree is experiencing substantial growth as we disrupt the market using digital packaging technologies to improve the eco-profile of brands. Now we are taking another step to spearhead greener packaging globally by doubling capacity with an additional HP Indigo press.”

The 30 inch (76 cm) HP Indigo 20000 can print virtually any sized flexible packaging application with unlimited variation and support demand for growing SKUs, alongside benefits of reduced waste from minimal setup and production of only the quantities needed. The solution provides converters the freedom to produce nearly any flexible packaging application, in addition to labels, and shrink sleeves on film or paper – all with the proven quality and color to help meet strict brand requirements.

The Pack Ready Lamination solution for HP Indigo digital presses delivers laminates without the use of conventional adhesives for immediate pouch converting, thereby opening new market opportunities for digitally printed flexible packaging.

Rootree specializes in stand-up pouches, coffee bags, custom printed pouches and three side seal pouches including flat and pillow pouches, with a goal to maintain high quality while minimizing environmental impact as much as possible.
