PBI announces Print Media Professional Certification Program

Press release from the issuing company

CHESTNUT HILL, MA -- September 8, 2008 -- It takes years of experience and on-the-job training to master the skills needed for print buying success. Yet most print buyers acknowledge there are few places to obtain the information and education required for their careers. The situation is about to change when Print Buyers International, LLC (PBI) introduces its new Print Media Professional (PMP) Certification at Print Buyers Boot Camp in Boston on Wednesday, September 10, 2008. The unique new credential, available only from PBI, will provide objective, independent verification of print buyers' skills and confirm their value as print buying pros.

Why PMP Certification Is Needed

PBI founder and president Margie Dana of Chestnut Hill, MA, a former corporate print buyer and widely sought after educator and speaker, says many new print buyers lack familiarity with printing processes and practices. "The purpose of PMP Certification is to ensure that the people who purchase printing are qualified to interact with printers with professionalism and confidence in their skills," she explains. "PMP Certification will raise the standards for both print buyers and the people who serve them."

At the upcoming Print Buyers Boot Camp on September 10, the daylong curriculum will cover a broad array of information, including: major printing processes; new printing trends and technologies; tools for working with printers; writing specs, proofing, and working with paper, ink and coatings.

Created With Expert Input

The new PMP credential was developed by a team of print industry and print buying experts, including: Dana; Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Professor Emeritus Frank Romano, author of 45 books and the world's leading print industry authority; and RIT Senior Training Specialist Steve Suffoletto, an internationally respected trainer and consultant. RIT is the nation's foremost print education institution.

PMP Certification Details

The PMP Certification is an open-book examination based on the new Print Buyers Boot Camp presentations and accompanying workbook. The workbook also includes an extensive Print Buyer Glossary of terms.

Boot Camp participants may take the PMP Certification exam onsite after Boot Camp or take it home and mail or fax their answer sheets to PBI. Certification testing costs an additional $350. Members of Boston Print Buyers pay only an additional $300. Candidates who pass the exam will receive an official certificate stating they are certified Print Media Professionals as recognized by Print Buyers International.

"The expanded, full-day Boot Camp curriculum will enable print buyers to master in one day what normally takes years to learn, and the new PMP Certification adds outside corroboration of their professional print buying skills," Dana explains. "This is a win-win situation for all."
