Data-Mail Inc. doubles down with second new Saber paper cutter from Colter & Peterson

Press release from the issuing company

Paterson, NJ – Nearly three years ago, Hartford, Connecticut based Data-Mail, Inc. added to its burgeoning finishing department a new paper cutter to keep up with demand. One of the top direct mail printers in the U.S., the company produces in excess of 1.5 billion pieces of direct mail annually and the growth continues. That’s why T.J. Smith didn’t hesitate to have a second, 45” Saber® X15 paper cutter from Colter & Peterson, North America’s largest independent distributor, installed in February.

Joining the newest Saber this time was an unloader and two rebuilt jogging units. The Saber line has quickly developed a reputation with customers for its productivity and reliability. Those attributes have played a significant role at Data-Mail, Inc., which runs 24/7 to handle its direct mail and commercial printing obligations, says Smith, Director of Print Services.

“The first Saber machine has definitely performed to our expectations. It’s been very dependable, consistent and user-friendly. The quick knife change has been a huge benefit to us,” indicated Smith, who has been at Data-Mail for nearly 11 years.

“We added the second Saber for even more reliability. Along with the unloader and joggers, it has helped with our productivity levels. The Microcut® automated system is also very impressive. It has been very responsive and consistent.”

That is an important aspect considering the high profile work done on behalf of Data Mail’s blue chip roster of customers, which includes some very recognizable names in the financial services, healthcare, insurance and retail fields. The Saber X15 includes state-of-the-art technology and is manufactured to ISO-9001 standards. The Microcut back gauge system offers a tremendous advantage by increasing productivity with the instant recall of previous jobs and cutting material within 1/64th of an inch.

Smith said Colter & Peterson has serviced Data-Mail’s paper cutters - which includes a larger POLAR unit - for 18 years. The newest Saber replaced a 45” Prism® that Smith traded in to C&P.

“The quality of the machines match the quality of the people. Bruce Peterson is a very knowledgeable guy who knows the business. His technical support staff are the same way. We print on a variety of material ranging from 50-lb. offset to 20-mil plastic, so it helps tremendously to know they are there for us. They are very responsive and they understand the business.”
