Conference begins celebration of the department’s 70th anniversary

SAN LUIS OBISPO — Cal Poly’s Graphic Communication Department will host an unprecedented conference focusing on graphic arts education July 5-10. 

For the first time, three major graphic communication education organizations will join forces to present the state of graphic arts education and the industry to educators and industry leaders from 15 nations. 

The organizations are the International Circle of Educational Institutes for Graphic Arts, Technology and Management (I.C.), the Graphic Communication Education Association (GCEA), and PrintED.  

The weeklong conference kicks off the 70th anniversary of the graphic communication program at Cal Poly. Technical presentations, hands-on workshops, and tours of California’s scenic Central Coast will be part of the event.

A highlight of the event will be the opening of the Raymond J. Prince Graphic Arts Collection on Monday, July 6. The collection is the world’s largest graphic arts library for education and industry research. It features the more than 20,000 volumes of the E. H. Wadewitz library that were donated to Cal Poly by Printing Industries of America.

“We are ecstatic to host this event. It will feature presentations and workshops led by the world’s most innovative, talented and leading experts in the field of graphic communication,” said Ken Macro, conference host and chair of Cal Poly’s Graphic Communication Department.
