Kodak Leading Market Transformation with Digital Inkjet Technology

Press release from the issuing company

Seamless integration, peerless productivity and compelling economics driving inkjet customer momentum

EYSINS, SWITZERLAND – Since starting the year with a new organizational structure realigned for growth, Kodak’s focus on inkjet technology has demonstrated successful participation in a strong breadth of applications and exciting customer wins.

Enterprise Inkjet Systems Division is now an end-to-end operating unit focused on the portfolio, product design, engineering, services, sales, purchasing and supply chain.

“This team has a single purpose – to provide a robust portfolio of solutions that provides  seamless integration, peerless productivity and compelling economics for our customers who are setting themselves up for long-term success with high-quality digital inkjet solutions,” said Philip Cullimore, President of Enterprise Inkjet Systems Division.

Globally, each print service provider faces a different set of challenges in what can be a very disparate set of regional print markets. Kodak’s involvement in developing next-generation inkjet technology solutions has led to continued investment from customers looking either to adjust its capabilities in the face of changes in its market segment or to expand its operations.

“More than 50% of our new press engagements are implementing color into its applications and are excited about the possibilities for short-run variable print into various book, direct mail and newspaper applications,” states Cullimore.

Customer Success

  • Leaderform – An Italian print service provider (PSP) focusing on direct mail and transactional printing, Leaderform has chosen the KODAK PROSPER 6000C Press as well as a KODAK NEXPRESS SX3900 Digital Production Color Press to both offer high-quality customization options and help expand its operation globally.

“About 90% of our printed products are customized, so being able to match digitally-printed products to offset quality is a winning strategy for us,” said Federico Cozza, CEO, Leaderform. “Kodak technology has helped us reassure our customers of our quality results while also helping us pioneer the transition to an all-digital printing operation, as we’re the first PSP in Europe to do so.”

  • Cordoba Printing and Binding – Cordoba is one of the leading book printers in Israel and serves many of the largest magazines in the nation as well. Facing customer demand for faster go-to-market turnaround times, Cordoba invested in a KODAK PROSPER 1000 Press.

“As print service providers, we’re up against what is now a very common demand in the industry; customers wanting more titles and shorter runs,” said Gaby Duer, CEO, Cordoba Printing and Binding. “With digital inkjet technology from Kodak, not only are we able to get our product to market more quickly, we can offer new products and solutions to our customers and really become a true partner to them as they grow.”

  • d’Haussy – Based in France with additional facilities in Germany, d’Haussy is a print service provider primarily serving the direct mail market. They recently invested in a KODAK PROSPER 5000XLi Press to help continue its growth into Germany and further expand in Europe.

“In the areas we serve, the color market is emerging and needs to be developed, meaning we have a tremendous opportunity to create demand for high quality color direct mail pieces by now leveraging Kodak technology,” said Xavier Moreau, Managing Director, d’Haussy.

  • In addition, Kodak has several print service providers around the world who have chosen the KODAK PROSPER S-Series Imprinting Systems for incorporating variable print into its offset printing processes to address the market needs in the newspaper and packaging applications.

Executive Quote

“There’s a profound transformation occurring in the inkjet market right now and it’s important that Kodak does everything in its power to lead and support customers through this exciting and opportunistic period,” said Eric Owen, VP Marketing and Sales, Enterprise Inkjet Systems Division, Eastman Kodak Company. “Kodak’s re-focused initiative, along with the launch of innovative new technologies and products like the KODAK PROSPER 6000 Presses, has enabled customers to explore new offerings, which in turn is helping grow and sustain its business, setting them up for long-term success.
