Kodak Alaris announces the KODAK i5850 Scanner

Press release from the issuing company

Service bureaus, business process outsourcers (BPOs), and large multinational organizations must quickly and accurately process massive amounts of paper. At the same time they must meet stringent service level agreements and reduce costs. To keep their businesses running and paper processing, they need a scanner fleet that avoids jams and misfeeds and minimizes operator intervention – all while scanning over 200 pages per minute. To address these demands, Kodak Alaris announces the KODAK i5850 Scanner – the next generation production scanner for operations looking for volume and speed without a hitch.

Intelligent Document Protection

Intelligent Document Protection is now available in the top of the range i5850 Scanner. The scanner ‘listens’ to the sound of paper passing through and stops the machine if it ‘hears’ paper crumpling. This avoids jams and paper damage from staples and misfeeds that can seriously disrupt operator productivity.

“Production scanners need to process paperwork quickly and deliver great image quality while avoiding misfeeds that can slow down bureau operations,” said Tony Barbeau, Products & Solutions General Manager and Vice President, Document Imaging, Kodak Alaris. ”The new i5850 Scanner achieves this while offering a range of additional new features.”

Image addressing technology and a new rear side imprinter

The i5850 Scanner comes with optical patch reader technology to enhance image addressing. The scanner can apply sequential numbers to documents making it much easier to track batches and organize documents into files and folders so that each batch is tracked accurately. And the new i5850 Scanner has a front and rear imprinter to date/ time stamp documents without altering the original document.

A big performer

The i5850 Scanner has no daily volume limitations. It can process up to 210 pages per minute in duplex and dual stream to produce 840 images per minute. Optical resolution of 600 dpi enhances Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Intelligent Document Recognition (IDR) applications. Plus the i5850 Scanner comes with Kodak Alaris’ Perfect Page imaging technology which virtually eliminates rescans and operator interventions, resulting in labor savings and maximum productivity. And the i5850 Scanner also has a height adjustable pedestal to make it comfortable for every operator to use.

Ripe market for production scanning

According to IDC, the high volume production scanner market is expected to grow by over 4% and continue to grow through 2018 providing a five year compound annual growth rate of 2.1%[1]. “Customers in this segment are seeking ways to speed up their business response and transaction times,” said Ron Glaz, Director of Research, IDC. “The faster their processes flow, the faster they can capitalize on new business opportunities. Kodak Alaris is the worldwide market leader in this category."

i5000 Series Delivers Major Benefits to Customers

MISL, a UK-based bureau operation, uses the KODAK i5000 Series Scanners to digitize patient records for the National Health Service. Steven Clarke, sales & marketing director, says, “We hit our Service Level Agreements (SLAs), minimized downtime and enhanced productivity, all while complying with legal requirements. This is critical when managing medical records because someone’s life may depend on it which is why we need the best equipment to do the job.”

For US-based service bureau Image Data, a good portion of projects are done on-site at client facilities, so finding high-volume production scanners that are also portable is key to their success. "We are often dealing with sensitive or confidential documents for our customers, and they don't want those documents to leave their site," explains Tom Marto, President of Image Data. "At the same time, they have limited floor space and can't afford to have someone tying up their facility. We have to get in and out fast with scanners that make quick work of the project."

Image Data's three KODAK i5800 Scanners run at speeds comparable to other, more expensive scanners, and deliver overall faster throughput at higher dpi and color settings.

KODAK Controlled Dual Stacking Accessory

The KODAK i5850 comes with an optional Controlled Dual Stacking Accessory to separate documents into two exit trays. This allows mixed sized documents like checks and invoices to be sorted and patch sheets to be reused to save money.

Another UK-based BPO, Crimson, a document management organization headquartered in the north west of England, processes about 2 million pages per month. They use the Controlled Dual Stacking Accessory to sort and reuse patch code separator sheets, which is environmentally friendly and saves money. Crimson used to purchase 25,000 sheets every other month and therefore estimates a return on investment on the Dual Stacking Accessory within 12 months.

Pricing and availability

The KODAK i15850 Scanner is available today with a US list price of $80,000. A full range of Service and Support contracts are available to protect your investment and keep productivity at peak levels. For more information, please visit www.kodakalaris.com/go/i5850news.
