Kodak Expands PROSPER Platform with PROSPER 6000XL and PROSPER S30

Press release from the issuing company

Kodak continues to extend the game-changing PROSPER Platform with the addition of the new KODAK PROSPER 6000XL Press, a 1000 fpm four-color press with monthly print volumes (MPV) of up to 160 million A4 pages. Ideal for commercial print, direct mail, and publishing, the PROSPER 6000XL Press prints at a maximum of 175 lpi at 650 fpm, or 133 lpi at 1000 fpm. The new device will be shown at drupa 2012 in the Kodak stand (Hall 5, F09-1) and joins the widely successful PROSPER 1000 Press and PROSPER 5000XL Press, both of which are serving a variety of customers around the world.

“The power and scalability of the PROSPER Platform make it an ideal solution for all kinds of applications, and this new model brings lower cost, increased flexibility, and improved productivity,” said Doug Edwards, Kodak’s President of Digital and Functional Printing. “With the game-changing capabilities of our Stream Inkjet Technology, we are able to meet the evolving needs of our customers—delivering tools that drive growth and profitability.”

The new PROSPER 6000XL is up to 45 percent more cost effective than high-volume thermal DOD presses and up to 31 percent more cost effective than the PROSPER 5000XL Press. Furthermore, the flexibility in speed and substrates, as well as the ink saver mode, make the device extremely versatile.

The 1000 fpm speed functionality will be demonstrated at the Kodak stand (Hall 5, F09-1) at drupa, along with the KODAK PROSPER Image Optimizer Station (IOS) and Optimizer Agent. The IOS provides users with a high degree of paper flexibility and paper cost savings by enabling the use of commercially available regular coated, uncoated and glossy papers between 45 gsm–300 gsm.

PROSPER S-Series Imprinting Systems

More than 400 KODAK PROSPER S-Series Imprinting Systems have been installed on six continents over the past three years, and now the family is expanding with the new KODAK PROSPER S30 Imprinting System. Offering the highest speed in the industry at 3000 fpm, the PROSPER S30 Imprinting System delivers 600 x 200 dpi output and gives customers a higher-performance choice for hybrid printing applications such as direct mail, inserts, gaming, advertising, package labeling, and more.

The Axel Springer newspaper printing plant in Ahrensburg, near Hamburg, Germany, is currently beta testing the KODAK PROSPER S30 Imprinting System in cooperation with Kodak and press manufacturer manroland. Axel Springer owns one of Germany’s largest newspapers, Bild. The PROSPER S30 System is mounted on Axel Springer’s manroland offset press to imprint variable components such as consecutive lottery numbers, variable QR codes, and changing artwork, across a width of up to 10.56 cm at full production speed. These PROSPER S30 Systems create gaming products that are integrated into the newspaper.

The PROSPER S-Series Imprinting Systems include the S5, S10, S10 CMYK, S20, and now the S30. Each solution produces laser-like quality for imprinting at a range of speeds and resolutions, bringing high-quality personalization to offset print jobs. With the PROSPER S-Series Imprinting Systems, print providers are able to leverage their capital investments in offset presses and bridge the gap to digital in a one-step, inline process.

The KODAK PROSPER S20 CMYK Imprinting System will be demonstrated on the show floor at drupa, highlighting opportunities in hybrid printing, the blending of offset and high-value variable color in direct marketing. Four-color inkjet imprinting inline with offset printing is growing in popularity and drives higher response rates for marketing professionals.

“Kodak is committed to Stream Inkjet Technology and is investing in new presses and imprinting systems while expanding key partnerships to continue the transformation of the print industry,” added Edwards. “This is differentiating technology for Kodak and for our customers, and the opportunities are exciting. drupa will serve as a showplace for all the latest PROSPER System Technologies, and customers will be on hand to share their stories of success.”
